J.D. Martinez and the Boston Red Sox keep piling up big
offensive numbers – not to mention wins – against the Los Angeles Angels.

Martinez hit his major league-leading 25th home
    run http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-paul-worrilow-jersey ,
Rafael Devers delivered a tiebreaking double and the Red Sox beat the skidding
Angels 9-6 on Wednesday night after squandering a six-run lead.

Boston (54-27) moved into first place in the AL East, a half-game ahead of
the rival New York Yankees. After finishing their series with the Angels on
Thursday night, the Red Sox play three games at Yankee Stadium this weekend.

The homer by Martinez capped a six-run second for the Red Sox, who won for
the fifth time in six games. Eduardo Nunez and Sandy Leon also went deep in the
inning. Boston improved to 5-0 against the Angels this season and has outscored
them 45-10 with 18 homers and a .363 batting average.

It’s the most homers by any club in a season series of six games or fewer,
    according to the Red Sox.

”I don’t know. That’s just what it is, really. There’s no one explanation,”
Martinez said. ”Maybe we just match up well against them.”

Martin Maldonado launched a three-run homer and Ian Kinsler had a solo shot
for the Angels, who lost their fifth straight and 12th in 16 games.

Los Angeles reliever Jake Jewell was carted off the field with what appeared
to be a gruesome injury to his right ankle after covering the plate on a
run-scoring wild pitch in the eighth.

”He’s getting evaluated, I think, at Massachusetts General,” Los Angeles
manager Mike Scioscia said. ”Hopefully we’ll get an idea of what’s happening
    sometime tonight.”

Angels star Mike Trout went 1 for 4 as a sprained right index finger kept him
as the designated hitter for the eighth consecutive game.

Devers doubled off reliever Jose Alvarez (3-3) in the seventh, putting Boston
back in front 7-6, and scored on Leon’s single in a game that took 4 hours.

”It was a weird game, slow
    pace http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-richard-rodgers-jersey ,”
Boston manager Alex Cora said. ”I’m glad we won the game. Not a pretty game to
    watch.”

Matt Barnes (2-2) worked a scoreless inning. Craig Kimbrel got four outs for
his 23rd save, his first of more than three outs this season.

The Angels trailed 6-0 and looked as though they were in line for another
lopsided loss to Boston before they charged back with a run in the fifth on
Kinsler’s homer, three in the sixth on Maldonado’s shot and two in the
    seventh.

”We battled back and got in the game. We’ll keep battling,” Scioscia said.
”But, at some point, obviously we need to put both ends together and get the
pitching we need, get some early runs and get the game on our terms and we’re
going to start to do things the way we can.”

Andrelton Simmons‘ RBI double off reliever Joe Kelly tied it.

Martinez’s shot went over the Green Monster in left-center, raising his big
league-best RBI total to 64. In his first season with Boston, the slugger has
the most home runs in Red Sox history before the end of June.

Nunez hit Andrew Heaney’s first pitch of the second into the center-field
bleachers. Leon drove an inside fastball off a billboard above the Green
    Monster.

Boston starter Rick Porcello gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Heaney was
tagged for six runs in 3 1/3 innings.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Angels: INF Zack Cozart got a second opinion on his left shoulder after
experiencing continued discomfort and plans to have surgery in Los Angeles soon
to repair a torn labrum, the team said. … Scioscia said two-way rookie star
Shohei Ohtani (sprained elbow ligament) will be re-evaluated Thursday. Three
weeks ago, Ohtani’s elbow was injected with platelet-rich plasma and stem cells
as he tries to avoid Tommy John surgery.

Red Sox: Cora said 2B Dustin Pedroia and knuckleballer Steven Wright will see
Dr. Riley Williams III when the club is in New York to play the Yankees this
weekend. Both are on the 10-day DL with left knee inflammation and had surgery
performed by Dr. Williams. ”Maybe we can do something differently as far as the
treatments,” Cora said about Pedroia, who has played in just three games since
offseason surgery. … Drew Pomeranz threw a simulated game and Cora said the
left-hander could start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on
    Monday.

    NEW ADDITION

The Red Sox signed infielder Brandon Phillips to a minor league deal. The
36-year-old veteran has played with five teams over 16 seasons.

    UP NEXT

Angels: RHP Jamie Barria (5-3, 3.40 ERA) is slated to pitch the series finale
Thursday. It will be his first career start against Boston.

    Red Sox: LHP Brian Johnson
    (1-2 Youth
Breeland Speaks Jersey , 4.50) takes Wright’s turn in the rotation after
he went on the disabled list Tuesday.

    —

BOSTON — Last Saturday in Seattle, Mariners left-hander Wade LeBlanc pitched
what had to be the game of his journeyman career in outdueling Steven Wright and
handing the Boston Red Sox a 1-0 defeat.

The Mariners haven’t won since as they head into Friday night’s rematch
between the two pitchers in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night at
    Fenway Park.

The Red Sox won the Sunday game in Seattle and then lost the first two games
in Minnesota before rebounding a 9-2 win and Rick Porcello’s ninth win of the
    season on Thursday.

After losing the game Sunday, the Mariners were swept in a three-game series
by the Yankees in the Bronx — to start a difficult 10-game swing through the
East that concludes with a four-game series in Baltimore.

LeBlanc, who has been pitching well in his latest role, is 3-0 with a 2.63
ERA and has yielded only 11 earned runs in nine starts — capped by 7 2/3 shutout
innings (two hits, no walks, nine strikeouts) against the Red Sox.

He is just 33-35 with a 4.23 ERA in his career, but much of the negative
numbers are in the past — at least for now.

After beating the Red Sox, he said, “That’s a stout lineup over there, but
the fact that me and Z (catcher Mike Zunino) were able to mix things up and put
them in the rocking chair makes things easier. Everything was executed and
that’s really all I can say. It’s the most important thing for me — it’s to
execute pitches. Today, me and Z were able to do that.”

But the team has faltered since, blowing a 5-0 lead in Wednesday’s game
    before losing 4-3 on Thursday.

“Coming in here, we have been playing very good
    baseball Authentic
Christian Kirk Jersey ,” said Seattle manager Scott Servais, whose team
has dropped five of its last seven. “We know what kind of ballclub they have
with the power and the bullpen. I thought we were right in the game the last
    couple of days.

“But you have to hit on the road. You have to get big hits on the road. We
just didn’t get it done. It doesn’t detract or take away from anything that
we’ve done to this point. Our guys are not down at all.”

The Boston bats snoozed through the first two games in Minneapolis, wasting
starts by Chris Sale and David Price. The bats broke out Thursday, avoiding the
sweep and leaving the Red Sox (50-26) as one of three American League teams with
    50 wins.

“I think it was just a couple of tough days,” Mookie Betts, who hit is 19th
homer of the season Thursday, said after the game. “We came out ready to swing
it and it just showed what we can do.”

Wright has been outstanding since making his delayed 2018 debut (after knee
surgery and a 15-game MLB suspension). He is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA and gave up
just the one losing run in the matchup with LeBlanc.

“He’s been great. Outstanding, really,” Cora said. “I heard a lot of good
things about him before I got here and he’s showed why.”

He is 2-2 with a 1.31 ERA in four games (two starts) against the Mariners.
Kyle Seager is 3-for-9 and Nelson Cruz 2-for-6 (both .333), and Zunino is
1-for-8 (.125) and Dee Gordon 1-for-6 (.167) against the knuckleballer.

LeBlanc is 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA in three career starts against Boston. The
Current Red Sox roster is a combined 3-for-16 against him. J.D. Martinez is
2-for-3 (.667) and no one has with more than three at-bats against
    him.

Steve Wilks took over as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals

Steve Wilks took over as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals
saying he was humbled by the job but exhibiting an abundance of confidence that
    he can do it well.

    The 48-year-old
    coach http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-brandon-parker-jersey ,
promoted after just one season as defensive coordinator of the Carolina
Panthers, was introduced at a news conference Tuesday, bringing a reputation of
connecting easily with his players as he replaces Bruce Arians, who retired
after five colorful seasons and 50 victories in Arizona.

”We found a great leader,” Cardinals President Michael Bidwill said, ”and not
just a leader with a high football IQ but also a high football `EQ’ (emotional
quotient). He doesn’t just coach football players, he coaches people.”

Wilks, who gets a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth,
described his coaching style as ”very passionate, persistent and very
    positive.”

    And confident.

”I’m going to tell you right now,” Wilks said, looking at Bidwill and general
    manager Steve
    Keim http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-nick-nelson-jersey ,
”you guys made the right decision.”

In a later interview, Wilks said, ”It’s hard to blend in when you’re born to
    stand tall.”

Bidwill said he heard nothing but good things about Wilks from his former
    players, many of them unsolicited.

”I know what he brings to the table. I know what they’re getting,” Washington
Redskins and ex-Panthers cornerback Josh Norman said in a statement provided by
the Cardinals. ”At the end of the day, I came from pretty much nothing to rise
up to where I’m at today and he was the catalyst behind that. Position coach all
the way up to the ranks of a D-coordinator for a year, and then making it now to
a head coaching job; it’s crazy how that trend came for him. The conversations
we have are just so enlightening. He’s a leader of men and that’s what it all
    boils down to.”

Keim was asked what separated Wilks from the other eight candidates
    interviewed for the job.

”You can become a better coach through experience,” Keim said. ”But to have
leadership, to me, there’s an innate part of that. And when you get to know
Steve Wilks, you can tell that he has that innate leadership skill that very few
    people have.”

There was nary a mention of Arians at the news conference. Instead, the new
    coach http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-johnny-townsend-jersey ,
who gained the nickname ”Denzel” back in Carolina due to his resemblance to a
certain actor, provided a vision for the foundation of the franchise, while
acknowledging ”the elephant in the room.”

”This is not a rebuild, this is a retool,” Wilks said. ”I think we have the
pieces in place, when you look at both sides of the ball. There’s a question
mark right now and we all know it, the elephant in the room. We don’t have a
    quarterback.”

This in a division that includes Jared Goff, Russell Wilson and Jimmy
    Garoppolo.

Keim insisted that lack of a quarterback was not a hindrance in the coaching
    search.

”We looked at it as a positive,” Keim said, ”As Michael and I talked to the
candidates, it’s `You really have a blank canvas. You really have an opportunity
to be a part of setting us up for the future at that position.”

Asked which was harder, finding a coach or a
    quarterback http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-ryan-switzer-jersey ,
Keim didn’t hesitate. ”A quarterback,” he said.

”We’re going to be aggressive in the process and there’s going to be a number
of different options,” Keim said, ”whether it’s free agency, whether it’s a
trade option or whether it’s the draft, or all three.”

While all of Wilks’ 23-year coaching career (11 college, 12 NFL) are on the
defensive side. He will inherit the makings of a strong defense in Arizona,
anchored by the likes of NFL sack leader Chandler Jones and perennial Pro Bowl
    cornerback Patrick Peterson.

But the big questions are on offense, and Wilks gave no hint as to who his
offensive coordinator will be. He said he wanted his staff in place by the Super
Bowl and did not rule out retaining members of the previous one.

He said he’d talked with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald on the phone but
doesn’t know if the star wide receiver will return for a 15th NFL season.

One of Wilks’ biggest smiles came when he talked about the return of running
back David Johnson, who was lost for the season when he broke a wrist in the
    opener.

The Cardinals will, the new coach assured, run the ball.

    Wilks’
    wife http://www.patriotsauthorizedshop.com/authentic-adrian-clayborn-jersey ,
Marci, two young daughters and an even younger son watched the news conference
from the front row then joined him onstage for photos.

Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is heading to the 10-day disabled list
    because of a stiff back.

Correa sat out games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and wasn’t in the lineup
Thursday night at Tampa Bay. The Astros say he’ll be put on the DL on
    Friday.

”He feels better, but we just need to do the right thing and get him
completely symptom-free and not sore,” manager A.J. Hinch said. ”He’s not going
to be available, so we’ll move forward and hopefully this is just 10 days and
he’ll be activated by next weekend.”

Hinch said by putting Correa on the disabled list Friday, retroactive for
three days, there is a possibility the 23-year-old star can be activated July 5
for a weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.

Correa is hitting .268 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 73 games and recently
had a streak of 70 errorless games.

The Astros will make a corresponding move to fill their 25-man roster on
    Friday.

Marwin Gonzalez was in Houston’s lineup at shortstop Thursday
    night.

Enrique Hernandez has helped the Los Angeles Dodgers solve a
problem they’ve had for years – Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.

Hernandez and Matt Kemp each homered for the second consecutive
    game http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-derrius-guice-jersey ,
Alex Wood got his first victory since May 20 and the Dodgers beat Bumgarner and
San Francisco 3-1 on Saturday night.

Hernandez’s two-run shot in the fifth inning was his fourth career homer
against Bumgarner in 34 at-bats. He also has five doubles against the
    left-hander.

The utility player usually feasts on Bumgarner’s fastballs, but he punished
the left-hander for a bevy of breaking pitches Saturday, crushing one into the
left field seats for his 10th home run this season.

”He adjusted to me and I hadn’t really made many adjustments,” Hernandez
said. ”Today he came at me with the same gameplan and it took me three at-bats
to adjust, but I’m glad that I did.”

Bumgarner (0-2) was making just his third start since returning from the
disabled list because of a broken finger that occurred during spring training.
He threw 112 pitches while giving up three runs on five hits over six
    innings.

”Each time out I’m getting better and better, that’s all I can ask for,”
Bumgarner said. ”It’s the first time I went over 100 pitches and my velocity is
creeping up and my stretch and grip is coming back.”

The Dodgers have won five straight, all at home, and are 11-2 in June and
    21-6 since May 17.

The Giants have lost 17 of their last 23 road games and are 3-6 on their
10-game trip to Washington, Miami and Los Angeles.

Kemp hit his 12th home run and has reached base in 15 of his last 18 games
against the Giants. Both Hernandez and Kemp went deep in a 3-2 win Friday over
    the Giants.

The Dodgers lead the majors with 34 home runs in 13 games in June.

Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth for his 17th save.

The Dodgers clinched their first series victory over the Giants this season
and evened the season series 6-6.

    WOOD STANDS TALL IN VICTORY

Wood (2-5) credited a change in mechanics for his improvement Saturday. He
was coming off a three-start stretch when he gave up 13 earned runs in 12
innings, going two innings in one start and 4 2/3 in another.

On Saturday, the left-hander gave up one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings
with two walks and two strikeouts. He held the Giants hitless until Mac
Williamson singled to lead off the fifth.

”We found something with my posture,” Wood said. ”I saw some good strides in
my (between-start) bullpen and got some repetitions out there. I felt really
good with the adjustment and saw that translate over.”

Wood gave up three hits in the
    fifth http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-justin-bethel-jersey ,
but the Giants’ only run in the inning came on a sacrifice fly from Alen Hanson.
Wood threw 29 of his 85 pitches in the fifth inning.

”As the game went on, I got a little fatigued,” Wood said. ”I think you
naturally start to revert back to some of the things you got yourself into, but
I felt really good about the progress tonight.”

    TRAINERS ROOM

Giants: 3B Evan Longoria elected to have surgery to insert a pin into his
fractured left hand with the hopes of returning shortly after the All-Star
break. … RHP Johnny Cueto, on the DL with right elbow inflammation, will throw
live batting practice Monday. … RHP Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) pitched three
innings for Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and manager Bruce Bochy said he
believes his starter will be back soon.

Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw (back) will pitch a three-inning simulated start
either Tuesday or Wednesday at Dodger Stadium while the Dodgers are in Chicago
to face the Cubs. Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw will follow that outing with
a bullpen session and likely another simulated start before going out on a minor
league rehab assignment. … LHP Rich Hill (blister) followed his minor league
rehab start Thursday with a bullpen session Saturday and remains on track to
return to the active roster Tuesday at Chicago.

    UP NEXT

RHP Chris Stratton (7-4, 4.56 ERA) will pitch for the Giants on Sunday at
Dodger Stadium in the finale of a three-game series. LHP Caleb Ferguson (0-0,
9.53) will be looking to pitch past the fourth inning for the first time as he
makes his third career start for the Dodgers.

The struggling New York Mets made a couple of roster changes Friday, cutting
Hansel Robles and demoting fellow reliever Paul Sewald to the minor leagues.

Right-hander Drew Smith and outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski were called up from
Triple-A Las Vegas before the opener of a three-game series against the Los
    Angeles Dodgers.

Robles was designated for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster.
New York has seven days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors.
The right-hander was 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 16 appearances during his fourth
season with the Mets. He allowed seven home runs and walked 10 in 19 2/3
    innings.

”Hansel’s been with us quite a while. We’ve seen him pitch well. We’ve seen
him pitch less well. We’ve got a number of other young relievers, some of whom
we acquired last year at the trade deadline, we want to take a look
    at http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-logan-paulsen-jersey ,”
general manager Sandy Alderson said. ”So we just felt it was time to take a look
at a couple of additional people. We’re excited to see what Drew Smith can do
    for us.”

Sewald and fellow right-hander Chris Flexen were optioned to Las Vegas
following Thursday’s loss at Colorado. Sewald was 0-4 with a 4.85 ERA in 26
games, and Flexen had an 11.57 ERA in 2 1/3 innings.

Smith, obtained from Tampa Bay last July for first baseman Lucas Duda, was
4-1 with three saves and a 2.88 ERA in 23 combined games at Double-A Binghamton
    and Las Vegas this year.

    Kaczmarski was batting .346 with a .416 on-base percentage in 33 combined
games between Class A St. Lucie and Las Vegas. He missed time while recovering
    from hernia surgery.

Smith and Kaczmarski were both looking to make their major league debuts.

New York began the day 31-41 and fourth in the NL East after losing 20 of its
    previous 26 games

”Given where we are currently, realistically, I think it’s important for us
to see what other people can do,” Alderson said. ”Drew Smith, Kaczmarski, let’s
see what they can do within the framework of trying to win some games
immediately over the next few weeks. But what we’re trying to do is make sure
we’re as competitive as we can possibly be over the next couple of weeks while
at the same time not being afraid to try out new faces.”

In another move, injured reliever A.J. Ramos (right shoulder surgery) was
transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Bortles was trying to get through a two-minute drill during the 2016 season.
It was a weekly walkthrough routine in which players were supposed to go
    half-speed while practicing plays.
    Normally http://www.buccaneersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jordan-whitehead-jersey ,
there’s no contact and every pass is complete.

At least that had been the case until Ramsey arrived.

Bortles threw several passes in Ramsey’s direction. The rookie intercepted or
    knocked down each one.

It happened week after week until Bortles finally stopped throwing Ramsey’s
    way.

”It was so annoying,” Bortles recalled Thursday.

It also set the tone for Ramsey’s career. The trash-talking cornerback has a
flair for frustrating quarterbacks and receivers and the ability to essentially
shut down one side of the field. After 33 games, Ramsey’s already considered
among the best players in franchise history – a 23-year-old rising star who
openly aspires to be as good as Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and often looks the
    part.

”The best I’ve ever seen in person,” Bortles said. ”He’s freakish.”

Ramsey is a major piece of Jacksonville’s defensive turnaround, and he’ll
take center stage Sunday when the Jaguars (11-6) play in the divisional round of
the AFC playoffs at Pittsburgh (13-3).

Ramsey will shadow Antonio Brown , widely considered the best receiver in the
    NFL.

All-Pro vs. All-Pro, undoubtedly the most intriguing matchup of the
    postseason game.

”It’s not many receivers I’m going to come in here in front of y’all and say
they’re one of the best in the league,” Ramsey said. ”He is, though. That’s the
    truth about him.”

Brown caught 10 passes for 157 yards in the first meeting against
    Jacksonville http://www.titansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-rashaan-evans-jersey ,
which won 30-9 in early October. Ben Roethlisberger targeted Brown a staggering
19 times, with three of those ending up as interceptions.

”He’s an elite player,” Ramsey said. ”Highly regarded by everybody, honestly,
around the nation or maybe internationally. So, yeah, it’s going to be a
challenge. We’re going to have to be on our Ps and Qs and try to execute the
game plan as best we can.”

Jacksonville’s game plan has changed slightly since the first meeting.

Ramsey and fellow Pro Bowl cornerback A.J. Bouye played sides to start the
season, covering whatever receiver lined up in front of them. But Ramsey has
since started following the top wideout for every opponent all over the field,
and he’s had rousing success against Houston’s DeAndre
    Hopkins http://www.titansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-harold-landry-jersey ,
    Indianapolis’ T.Y. Hilton, Cincinnati’s A.J. Green, Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald,
Los Angeles Chargers’ Keenan Allen and San Francisco’s Marquise Goodwin.

Ramsey angered Green so much with his constant verbal jabs that the
mild-mannered receiver grabbed the cocky cornerback in a headlock and tossed him
to the ground. Both players were ejected.

”He’ll get in a guy’s head now,” linebacker Telvin Smith said.

Added Bouye: ”Everything he’s accomplished, he’s worked for it. He’s
capitalized. He’s learned from his mistakes and he keeps getting better week in
    and week out.”

According to Pro Football Focus, Ramsey has allowed 47 receptions for 586
yards and three touchdowns this season. He has five interceptions, including one
to seal a 10-3 victory against Buffalo in a wild-card game.

It was about what the Jaguars have come to expect from the fifth overall pick
in the 2016 draft. He has a rare combination of size,
    speed http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-da_ron-payne-jersey ,
instincts, ball skills and body control. And he’s no longer a rookie.

”You see the maturity in the meetings and you see the maturity on the grass,”
defensive coordinator Todd Wash said. ”We always knew he was a freak athlete and
we always knew he could play. But that maturity level is getting better and
    better each day.”

His matchup against Brown will be his next – and maybe his best –
    challenge.

”It’s going to be an unbelievable thing,” Jaguars safety Barry Church said.
”I’m just glad I’m on the field for it. Those guys, they both like to talk a bit
of trash and they’re going to be matched up with each other the whole game. It’s
going to be a great one. We’ll see who gets the better of the two, but my
    money’s on Jalen.”

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria is going on the disabled
list after injuring his left hand when he was hit by a pitch at Miami.

The Giants announced the move shortly before their series opener at Dodger
    Stadium on Friday night.

Longoria fractured the fifth metacarpal in his hand in the fourth inning of
the Giants’ 16-inning victory over the Marlins a day earlier. He remained in the
game as a runner before being caught in a double play. He was replaced
defensively in the bottom of the inning.

Longoria said after the game that the last time he broke a bone in his wrist
he went to the World Series in 2008 with Tampa Bay.

He is tied for the Giants’ lead with 34 RBIs, is second with 10 home runs and
is tied for second with 27 extra-base hits.

In games where the St. Louis Cardinals hit homers and pitch
    well Ameer
Abdullah Jersey , they generally walk off the field with a win.

But on nights where they can’t connect with the long ball, they don’t
consistently make up for it with situational hitting or defense. Friday night’s
5-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves was another example of that trend rearing its
    ugly head.

After failing to cash in leadoff walks in the bottom of the first against
Braves starter Julio Teheran, St. Louis simply couldn’t crack the code. It
eventually caught up with the Cardinals as they were held to one run for their
    second straight game.

For St. Louis (42-38) to even the series Saturday night at Busch Stadium, the
Cardinals will have to do a better job of converting runners in scoring position
into runs while not giving up extra outs defensively. The Cardinals’ three
errors Friday night marked their 17th multi-error game in 80 games.

St. Louis is on a pace to commit more than 130 miscues this year, continuing
a three-season trend of below-average defense. Permitting good teams like
Atlanta (46-34) four or five outs in an inning is a recipe for disaster.

The Braves started a 10-game road trip with a positive result. Third baseman
Johan Camargo was the offensive star, going 3-for-5 with two runs and a two-run
double off Jordan Hicks in the eighth that broke open a 1-0 game.

“Baseball is all about its ups and downs,” Camargo said. “For me, it’s all
about maintaining the focus and just staying the path.”

Atlanta essentially heeded Camargo’s credo, bouncing back from consecutive
series losses against last-place teams Baltimore and Cincinnati. It will turn to
left-hander Max Fried (0-2, 4.09 ERA) on Saturday to secure a series win.

Fried is replacing veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy, who was put on the
10-day disabled list Thursday with a knee injury. A former first-round pick of
San Diego, Fried will make his first start since going five innings and giving
up one earned run on May 28 in a no-decision against the New York Mets.

It will be the second career appearance against the Cardinals for Fried, who
last year tossed a scoreless inning in relief against them.

Right-hander Luke Weaver (4-6, 4.59) will look for his second straight win
for St. Louis. Weaver shrugged off a rough first inning Sunday in Milwaukee to
    grab an 8-2
    win Evan
    Bouchard Oilers Jersey , fanning a season-high nine over 5 2/3 innings
while yielding two runs off five hits and two walks.

Weaver needed 32 pitches to make it through a two-run first inning, but
started finding the range with his off-speed pitches. That made his fastball
play bigger, and he rolled through the middle innings while the Cardinals bombed
Jhoulys Chacin out of the box with five runs in the fourth and two more in the
    fifth.

“The first inning, it was like, ‘Here we go again.’ It means a lot for him to
right the ship,” St. Louis manager Mike Matheny told mlb.com.

Weaver, who snapped a seven-start winless streak in Milwaukee, will make his
first career appearance against the Braves.

    The Texas Rangers took full
advantage after a changed call. A misplayed flyball only made things worse for
    the San Diego Padres.

Robinson Chirinos drove in the first of five runs Texas scored in a decisive
sixth inning on the next pitch after it appeared he had struck out, and right
fielder Hunter Renfroe was charged with an error on the next play as the Rangers
rallied for a 7-4 win Monday night.

There were two runners and Chirinos had two strikes when he had a foul tip.
Home plate umpire Tony Randazzo initially indicated he was out, and it looked
like catcher Austin Hedges had secured the ball in the mitt that kicked up dirt
    when he reached down.

But was changed to a foul ball after the umpires got together to discuss the
    play.

”From my vantage point, our dugout, we saw dirt fly, which seem to indicate
that the ball hit the ground,” said Rangers manager Jeff
    Banister Authentic
Lukas Dostal Jersey , who said the umps got together on their own.

Padres manager Andy Green obviously had a much different view.

”Yeah, it’s frustrating. They missed it. I think it’s obvious when you see
the film that they missed it,” Green said. ”It’s a frustrating overturn on an
obvious call. We had chances, though. We had some plays we could have made that
we didn’t make. It’s one of those innings that flat out got away from us.”

After Chirinos’ got Texas within 4-2, Ronald Guzman then hit the deep flyball
misplayed by Renfroe, who drifted to the ball on a windy night into the
right-center cutout. Guzman wound up at second on the error and was credited
with a sac fly. Delino DeShields and Choo followed with consecutive RBI singles,
and Elvis Andrus added a sac fly.

”You’ve got to be mentally tough enough to bounce back from it and make a
better pitch than what I made,” said Craig Stammen (4-1).

Choo extended his career-best on-base streak to 38 games with three hits,
including that tiebreaking RBI single in the sixth. Chirinos had an RBI double
    in the seventh.

San Diego (35-46) reached the midpoint of its season by losing for the eighth
time in nine games. The Rangers (35-45), who play their 81st game Tuesday night,
    have won eight of nine.

Tony Barnette (2-0) retired all three batters he faced after Manuel Margo and
Jose Pirela homered off Rangers starter Cole Hamels. Keone Kela worked the nine
for his 19th save, the most in the majors without a blown chance and matching
the longest season-opening span in team history.

”Being able to see what the team was able to do when you put them a little
behind, they were able to battle,” Hamels said. ”When you’re
    winning http://www.buccaneersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-alex-cappa-jersey ,
everybody’s happy, and you can move on to the next day.”

    GOING DEEP

Margo’s three-run homer in the fifth was his second homer in as many days,
and his third overall. His only other homer this season came April 5. … Pirela
went deep to start the sixth for a 4-1 lead and chase Hamels.

    BEING CAUTIOUS

San Diego starter Joey Lucchesi allowed only one hit over four scoreless
innings. But the lefty was limited to 70 pitches in only his second start after
being out more than a month because of a right hip strain.

”You’re managing a guy’s career as much as you are a baseball game,” Green
said. ”To me, wasn’t quite stretched out enough to send him back out there for
    the fifth inning.”

    SHORT HOPS

The Padres had allowed five runs or fewer in their 14 previous road games, a
club record. … It was the 10th time in Hamels’ 16 starts this season that Texas
scored no more than one run while the lefty was on the mound.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Padres: Green said an MRI on the pitching elbow of RHP Jordan Lyles showed
that he does just have inflammation. Lyles was scratched from his scheduled
start Saturday after feeling discomfort while warming up. Lyles will rejoin the
team in Texas, but won’t start throwing again before the weekend.

Rangers: Guzman left in the sixth and went into MLB concussion protocol. His
head struck the knee of third baseman Christian Villanueva when diving back on
an attempted pickoff by Hedges. ”It was very evident when we got out there, just
his words, kind of the symptoms that he gave us,” Banister said. … RF Nomar
Mazar left with tightness in his left hamstring after an infield single in the
eighth. Banister described that as ”pretty precautionary.”

    UP NEXT

Padres right-hander Tyson Ross (5-5), who received no run support in his last
two starts, faces the team he pitched for last year. Ross was 3-3 with a 7.71
ERA in 12 games in his only season with the Rangers after previously being with
    San Diego from 2013-16.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo had quite the dilemma when the
game was stopped by rain for the second time in the middle of the fourth inning.

    When the showers
    subsided http://www.steelersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey ,
Lovullo gave the ball back to Zack Greinke, and the ace right-hander
    delivered.

Greinke pitched six scoreless innings, Paul Goldschmidt homered and the
Diamondbacks beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 on Saturday for their third
    consecutive win.

”We were having debates in here whether we should send Zack out or not,”
Lovullo said. ”He said he felt great and he wanted to keep pitching. Just felt
like we had to do the right thing and take him off the mound, but he saved us
today. He did a great job.”

David Peralta had two hits and two RBIs for NL West-leading Arizona.
Goldschmidt also walked twice and scored three times.

Greinke (7-5) allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked none. He also
doubled and scored on Jon Jay’s double in the fourth.

The Pirates hit just four balls out of the infield against Greinke, who had
never before stayed in through two rain delays. They combined to halt play for 1
    hour, 21 minutes.

”Didn’t really know how to respond,” he said. ”Told Torey if it feels
terrible, I’d let them know. It wasn’t too bad.”

Greinke’s extra-slow curveball was especially effective. Sitting around 69
mph at a big separation from his 89 mph fastball, it accounted for four of his
    strikeouts.

”It’s obviously a weapon that slows the hitters down because it’s such a slow
pitch,” Arizona catcher Jeff Mathis said. “He has a good feel for it too. He’s
always looking for an opportunity to drop it in there.”

Arizona grabbed control with five runs in the first four innings against Joe
    Musgrove (2-3).

Goldschmidt walked and scored on Peralta’s triple in the first. Peralta then
scored when Sean Rodriguez’s relay throw landed in the Pirates’ dugout.

The duo combined for another run in the third when Goldschmidt walked again
and scored on Peralta’s double. Chris Owings singled in Jake Lamb to make it
    4-0.

”If I can’t control the inner half to the
    lefties http://www.49ersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mike-mcglinchey-jersey ,
it’s a tough day for me to get them out,” Musgrove said. ”It showed today.”

Goldschmidt hit his 17th homer in the seventh, and Lamb added an RBI single
    in the ninth.

Musgrove’s day ended with the second rain stoppage. He allowed seven hits,
struck out two and walked three.

    ROUGH DAY

Rodriguez went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts in addition to his error on his
bobblehead day. He is hitting .149 on the season.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Diamondbacks: LHP Robbie Ray (strained right oblique) will make his third
    rehab start on Monday.

Pirates: C Francisco Cervelli, already on the seven-day disabled list, has
been diagnosed with a concussion. There is no timeframe for his return. … LF
Corey Dickerson returned from the Family Medical Emergency Leave List and
started. INF/OF Adam Frazier was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

    UP NEXT

Diamondbacks: RHP Clay Buchholz (1-1, 2.94 ERA) is expected to start the
series finale on Sunday. In three starts on the road, he has a 2.12 ERA and is
holding opponents to a .180 batting average.

Pirates: RHP Trevor Williams (6-4, 4.00 ERA) is coming off one of his best
outings of the season, when he struck out seven over seven one-hit innings
    Monday against Milwaukee.

In line for his first win in more than two months,
Zack Wheeler had to watch as the New York Mets bullpen turned a five-run lead
    into a two-run deficit.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a tiebreaking two-run home run in the eighth inning
and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the struggling Mets 8-6 on Tuesday
    night.

”Wheeler threw a gem,” said Mets reliever Anthony
    Swarzak http://www.49ersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-dante-pettis-jersey ,
who allowed three runs. ”We should have won this game.”

Yangervis Solarte hit a game-tying three-run home run off Robert Gsellman in
the seventh before Gurriel Jr. went deep off Tim Peterson (1-1) in the eighth as
the Blue Jays won for the 11th time in 14 home games.

”A couple of pitches that we didn’t quite execute, and they put them out of
the park,” New York manager Mickey Callaway said.

The Mets have lost 11 of 13.

John Axford (2-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings to earn the win. Tyler Clippard got
the final out for his sixth save in 10 opportunities, stranding runners at first
    and second.

Wheeler allowed two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings but was denied his
first victory since April 29 at San Diego.

”He did great job tonight,” Callaway said. ”Obviously deserved a better fate
    than he got.”

Wheeler pitched seven scoreless innings against Pittsburgh in his previous
start but the Mets lost 5-3.

”This is a good little stretch right now and hopefully I can keep it going,”
    Wheeler said.

Asdrubal Cabrera and Devin Mesoraco each hit two-run home runs for the Mets.
Wilmer Flores added a solo shot.

Cabrera connected against Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada in the first
and Mesoraco homered off Jake Petricka in the second.

Estrada was removed after 12 pitches because of a sore left hip. He faced
three batters and got one out. Estrada allowed two runs and one hit.

”His left hip has been bothering him a little bit,” Blue Jays manager John
Gibbons said. ”It was bothering him in his last start but it was worse
    tonight.”

X-rays were negative. Estrada was undergoing an MRI following the game.

Petricka replaced Estrada and pitched 2 2/3 innings.

Mets outfielder Jose Bautista went 1 for 2 with a single and three walks in
his first game in Toronto since leaving the Blue Jays at the end of last season,
ending a 10-year run north of the border.

The crowd of 24,010 gave Bautista a standing ovation before his first at bat.
The two-time home run champion took off his batting helmet and acknowledged both
the fans and the Blue Jays dugout before drawing a five-pitch walk and scoring
    on Cabrera’s 15th homer.

”Great to be recognized, great to acknowledge the fans and great to know they
feel good I’m back and wanted to recognize me,” Bautista said.

Bautista made a diving catch to retire Russell Martin for the final out of
the second but was charged with a two-base error in the seventh when Randal
Grichuk’s single skipped past him and rolled to the wall.

”I was actually going to try to make a play at first,” Bautista said. ”It was
a good one to make an
    attempt http://www.buccaneersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-vita-vea-jersey ,
but the ball bounced a little higher than expected.”

Kevin Plawecki replaced Mesoraco at catcher in the seventh. Mesoraco was
struck on the helmet by the carom when Travis was hit by a pitch in the fifth.
Mesoraco was hit again by a swing in the sixth.

Callaway said Mesoraco passed concussion tests but would be monitored
    overnight.

    TUNED IN

The Blue Jays played Bautista’s old walk-up music, Usher’s ”OMG,” before his
first at bat. ”That caught me by surprise,” Bautista said.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Mets: OF Yoenis Cespedes (right hip) felt fine after running a series of
sprints Monday, manager Mickey Callaway said. It was the first time Cespedes had
run since leaving a minor league rehab game June 9. … RHP Noah Syndergaard
(right index finger) and LHP Jason Vargas (right calf) faced each other in a
simulated game at the Mets’ spring training facility in Florida Tuesday.
Syndergaard threw 50 pitches and Vargas threw 65.

Blue Jays: RHP Seunghawn Oh (flu-like symptoms) was not available. … Minor
league 3B prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (left knee) has resumed batting
practice and is expected to participate in infield drills this weekend. Guerrero
Jr. is working out at Toronto’s spring training facility in Florida.

    UP NEXT

Mets RHP Corey Oswalt (0-1, 9.82) faces Blue Jays RHP Marcus Stroman (1-5,
6.02) in Wednesday’s series finale. Oswalt made his major league debut against
Miami on June 29, allowing six runs in 2 2/3 innings. Stroman won for the first
time this season in his previous outing, pitching seven innings against
    Detroit.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has visited a
hospital in Maine to make a donation and meet with kids.

    Gronkowski http://www.texansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jordan-akins-jersey ,
his father and two of his brothers delivered a $25,000 check to The Barbara Bush
Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Hospital chief operating officer Jeffrey Sanders said Tuesday the hospital is
grateful and added, ”Gronk will always be a champion” to people there.

The money was raised through two raffles by the Gronk Nation Youth
Foundation, which is dedicated to inspiring young people to reach their maximum
potential through sports, education, community and fitness. The raffles were for
tickets to the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl, which the Patriots lost
    to the Philadelphia Eagles.

    The Barbara Bush Children’s
    Hospital http://www.chargersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-uchenna-nwosu-jersey ,
Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island and Boston Children’s Hospital
    benefited from the raffles.

Ryan McMahon turned a small adjustment into a big
    return for the Colorado Rockies.

McMahon tweaked his swing early in the afternoon and then hit a go-ahead,
three-run homer to help rally the Rockies past the New York Mets 10-8 on
    Wednesday night.

Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon also went deep, and Colorado’s struggling
bullpen shut the door in the late innings.

”You need a bullpen to do what ours did tonight from the sixth on – put up
zeros,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. ”That’s the expectation, and that’s
    their expectation.”

Colorado trailed 8-6 when McMahon pinch-hit with two on and two outs in the
fifth. He sent a 1-0 changeup from reliever Robert Gsellman into the Rockies’
bullpen to give Colorado the lead.

It was McMahon’s second homer of the season and it came just hours after he
worked with hitting coach Duane Espy in the batting cage.

”I made a small adjustment today with my hands, just put them in a better
position to get that shorter swing off, that flatter swing
    off http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-trenton-cannon-jersey ,”
McMahon said. ”Stood the bat up a little more and got instant results.

”It’s been a long time coming and it felt really good to come through for the
    guys.”

Gsellman (5-2) had given up just one home run in 16 road games prior to
    Wednesday.

”A changeup right down the middle and the hitter just did his job and hit it
out of the ballpark,” he said. ”Got to execute the pitch.”

Bryan Shaw (3-5) got one out to earn the win. Wade Davis pitched the ninth
for his 21st save this season – and the 100th of his career.

New York took an 8-6 lead with a four-run fifth. The Mets batted around for
the second time in the game and benefited from three walks in the inning,
including one to Brandon Nimmo with the bases loaded.

Dominic Smith, who tripled in the fifth, had a career-high three hits for New
York and was a home run short of the cycle.

The Mets loaded the bases in the sixth against lefty Harrison Musgrave but
pinch-hitter Kevin Plawecki grounded into an inning-ending double play to
    Arenado at third.

”The sixth got a little dicey, but zeros nevertheless,” Black said. ”That’s
    how you win games.”

Neither starter lasted long in another high-scoring game at Coors Field. The
Mets scored three in the first and another in the second to take a 4-1
    lead http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-p.j.-hall-jersey ,
but Colorado tied it with three unearned runs in the second.

The Rockies went ahead 6-4 in the third on RBI singles by Gerardo Parra and
    Tom Murphy.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Mets: RHP A.J. Ramos had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder. … Mets
manager Mickey Callaway said the results of OF Jay Bruce’s MRI revealed a right
hip strain and the team will decide on a plan soon. … RHP Noah Syndergaard
(strained ligament in right index finger) threw before batting practice.

Rockies: LHP Mike Dunn (rhomboid strain) threw live batting practice and said
he had no ill effects. Dunn said he threw about 20 pitches. If he feels good
Thursday, Black said Dunn could go on a rehab assignment this weekend. … RHP
Scott Oberg (back strain) could also go on a rehab assignment, Black said.

    INJURY SCARE

New York second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera was holding his left arm after
tagging out Murphy on a steal attempt in the seventh inning. The trainer checked
him over but Cabrera was able to stay in the game.

”He just landed hard on his left elbow,” Callaway said.

    HOME INVASION

The Rockies have allowed eight or more runs in their last nine home games,
which ties for the longest streak in big league history, according to the Elias
Sports Bureau. The 1894 St. Louis Browns were the last team to do it.

    ROSTER MOVE

Before the game, the Mets recalled RHP Chris Flexen from Triple-A Las Vegas
and optioned RHP Hansel Robles to their top farm team.

    UP NEXT

    In a matchup of
    left-handers http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-daryl-worley-jersey ,
the Mets will send Steven Matz (3-4, 3.31 ERA) to the mound against Colorado
hometown favorite Kyle Freeland (6-6, 3.59) in the finale of the four-game
    series Thursday afternoon.

Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is scheduled make a
minor league rehab start on Saturday as he continues his recovery from a
strained lower back. The three-time NL Cy Young Award could be back pitching in
    the majors soon.

    According to manager Dave
    Roberts Zach
Werenski Jersey , Kershaw will be limited to four innings and 60 pitches
when he returns to the mound with Triple-A Oklahoma City at Omaha. If the outing
goes well, Roberts hoped the left-hander’s next appearance would be with Los
    Angeles.

Kershaw threw a three-inning simulated game before the Dodgers’ postponed
series opener against the Chicago Cubs on Monday night. Afterward, Kershaw said
    he felt really good.

Roberts said Kershaw returning when the Dodgers play at the New York Mets
this weekend was considered, but the team opted for the minor league start to
give the lefty ”the best chance for success and health.”

The 30-year-old Kershaw was sidelined for nearly a month with left biceps
tendinitis before returning May 31 against Philadelphia. He pitched five
effective innings in a no-decision against the Phillies, and then went back on
the disabled list the next day with the back injury.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is making his PGA Tour debut next
    month in the Dominican Republic.

As a player, not a broadcaster.

Romo, now the lead NFL analyst for CBS Sports, has received a sponsor’s
exemption to play in the Puntacana Resort & Club Championship on March
22-25. The first-year event is held opposite the Dell Technologies Match Play, a
World Golf Championships event that attracts the top 64 in the world.

”You never know how good you are until you go play and
    perform Authentic
Alexander Radulov Jersey ,” Romo said Wednesday. ”Obviously, the odds
going against these guys are not great. I think we all know that. But I think
that’s what makes it really fun and enjoyable. I also think that the challenge
that’s presented is what a competitor really wants.”

He joins a short list of athletes who have tried to compete against those who
    play for a living.

Mark Rypien, the former Washington Redskins quarterback, played the Kemper
Open in 1992. He shot rounds of 80-91 and missed the cut by 27 shots.

Ken Harrelson, an All-Star outfielder for the Boston Red Sox in 1968,
qualified for the 1972 British Open at Muirfield and missed the cut by one shot.
John Brodie qualified for the U.S. Open while playing for the San Francisco
49ers and later won on the PGA Tour Champions circuit.

Most recently, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry played a Web.com Tour
event outside San Francisco. He shot 74-74 and missed the cut by 11 shots.

Tournaments are allotted unrestricted exemptions – Michelle Wie received them
when she was a teenager – and there invariably are complaints from other players
who might feel as though he is taking a spot from someone who has a better
    chance.

”I know a lot of these guys, so I’ll just tell them, `Get out there. Let’s
play a couple rounds and see what happens.’ I’ll joke with them a little
    bit Trenton
Cannon Color Rush Jersey ,” Romo said. ”But I think if you play good, they
will respect you. If you don’t play good, then you really aren’t going to be
respected very well. If you hit a 5-iron … and you can put it to a back right
pin and fade it in there, they’re going to respect you. And if you can’t, then
you’ll probably get some blow back.

”So I understand that,” he said. ”That’s why you’ve got to go out there and
    play well.”

Romo has tried to qualify for the U.S. Open three times, most recently
failing to advance from the first stage a year ago. He reached the final stage
in 2010 and was tied for 10th after the first 18 holes. But he started the next
round with a quadruple bogey and was 7 over when play was stopped for the second
time because of weather. The Cowboys had an organized team activity the next day
    and he had to withdraw.

Romo has a plus-3 handicap index out of Dallas National Golf Club and
occasionally plays with Jordan Spieth. Romo says those rounds take the longest
because he’s asking Spieth for advice on his game.

He also began seeing Spieth’s chiropractor, Troy Van Biezen, to help recover
from back surgeries that forced him out of football. Romo is playing this week
at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with Will Zalatoris. Romo will play from the
    forward tees as an amateur.

    ”His short game is
    fantastic http://www.cowboysauthorizedshops.com/authentic-leighton-vander-esch-jersey ,”
Spieth said. ”He’s walking in putts from 15 feet at home. … His muscle memory,
his hand-eye coordination is really special. So I have no doubt he’ll shoot
under par every round out here from where they’re playing from. And he’s really
excited for the challenge and he wants to beat the pros that are in his group.
That’s kind of his goal. I mean, he thinks he can win this golf tournament if he
    played it with us.”

Romo said if he played well, he would be open to more sponsor exemptions.

”If you don’t play well … it’s like a free agent in football,” he said. ”You
get one shot. Hopefully, you do well.”

PHOENIX — As the second half of the season
    commences Terrell
Edmunds Color Rush Jersey , both Arizona and San Francisco have reasons to
feel confident as they prepare for the third game of a three-game weekend series
    Sunday.

Both are nearing full health, and the NL West remains wide open as the
Diamondbacks, Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers are within 3 1/2 games of each
    other entering July.

Arizona survived a 2-15 stretch in May and is playing as well as it did in
the early going, when it did not lose any of its first 12 series. The Giants
have won nine of 11 after going 18-10 in June, their first winning month since
    June, 2016.

“I know that we got off to a great start and hit a little downturn and fought
back,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said when asked about his takeaways from
    the first half.

“The obvious thing is, we are playing very good baseball now. We’ve grown and
learned and become stronger and tougher because of the situation we walked
through in May. They have never pointed their finger at anything or any anyone
in an particular situation or moment.

“When it didn’t go well, they were accountable. They played united baseball.
We’re right in the middle of a story that we continue to want to tell the way we
    are telling it.”

Arizona right-hander Zack Godley will oppose Giants left-hander Derek Holland
in the final game of the series at Chase Field on Sunday afternoon. The Giants
begin a three-game series in Colorado on Monday while the Diamondbacks will host
a three-game series against St. Louis.

“Considering everything that is happened, we are right in the thick of
things, which is where you want to be,” San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy
    said.

“If you would have told me what we have to deal with – three starters out,
(Joe) Panik out, (Evan) Longoria out. Sure, no question you take it. I think it
is going to be tight in September. Hopefully we’re right there. That’s our
    plan.”

Right-handers Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija could made their next starts
in the majors after prolonged absences due to
    injury Mike
McGlinchey Color Rush Jersey , and Cueto would be particularly welcome. He
was 3-0 with an 0.84 ERA in five starts while holding opponents to a .150
batting average before going on the disabled list because of shoulder soreness
in the first week of May.

In the interim, Dereck Rodriguez and Andrew Suarez have pitched well. The
Giants also have received only five starts from Madison Bumgarner, who opened
the season on the disabled list before returning in early June.

Arizona outfielders A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. also are nearing a
return from the disabled list after missing considerable time. The Diamondbacks
also lost starters Taijuan Walker and Robbie Ray for 58 days before
    returning.

Pollock and Souza Jr. are on rehab assignments for Triple-A Reno, and Pollock
is likely to return before the All-Star break. Pollock was slashing
.293/.349/.620 with 10 doubles, 11 homers and nine stolen bases in 43 games
before suffering a fractured thumb trying to make a diving catch in center field
in the ninth inning of a 7-2 loss to Milwaukee on May 14.

“You think about what the (injury) losses are,” Lovullo said “It’s been a
very interesting season. I think the most resilient teams are the ones that
understand and accept what’s happening day by day, whether it is good or bad,
and move on to the next day as quickly as possible.

“We are a resilient group. We can turn the page quickly, no matter what the
    results are.”

Godley, 9-5 with a 4.58 ERA, is one victory short of NL leaders Max Scherzer,
Jon Lester and Aaron Nola, in part because he has received 4.63 runs of support
in his 16 starts. His 1.52 WHIP is 44th and last among qualified NL starters,
and he has made seven quality starts.

Godley is 1-1 with a 6.10 ERA in two starts against the Giants this season
and is 2-2 with a 6.97 ERA in six career appearances, four
    starts Dante
Pettis Color Rush Jersey , against them. Godley has pitched his best at
home this season, going 4-1 with a 2.89 ERA in six starts.

Holland (5-7, 4.24) is coming off arguably his best outing of the season,
although he did not receive a decision in a 3-2 victory over Colorado. Holland
gave up one run on six hits in a season-high 6 2/3 innings while striking out a
season high eight. It was his longest appearance since he went eight innings
against Seattle on May 21, 2017.

He is 0-1 in two starts against the Diamondbacks, both with Texas. Holland is
3-5 with a 3.94 ERA in nine road starts this season. He has never pitched in
    Chase Field.

Former Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver said the key to
winning is ”pitching, fundamentals and three-run homers.”

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona can go one better: grand slams.

Yan Gomes hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and the Indians rallied to
beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Tuesday night.

The Indians lead the American League with eight grand slams and it was their
second in two nights. Francisco Lindor hit one Monday.

”I’m glad,” Francona said. ”I hope we have a ton more opportunities. I’m
really happy about that. That’s really good for us.”

Edwin Encarnacion led off the sixth with a walk and Brandon Guyer was hit by
Danny Duffy’s pitch. Yonder Alonso’s infield single loaded the bases before
Gomes drove Duffy’s 1-0 changeup into the left-field bullpen.

”I hope it’s not contagious, because that means people are going up there
looking to hit a grand slam,” Gomes said. ”You really just want to get up there
and try to keep the line moving. I hope if we get more bases-loaded
(situations), we’re just able to drive more guys in, whether that’s a sac fly or
a base hit or a grand slam.”

Gomes is 10 for 26 (.385) with three home runs and eight RBIs off Duffy.

Shane Bieber (4-0) allowed all the Kansas City runs in the first two innings,
and remains undefeated in his first five big league starts.

”Things got a little ugly,” Bieber said. ”They could have gotten a lot worse.
I was trying to go out there and compete and move on to the next pitch.”

Chad Allen got the final four outs for his 17th save in 18 chances and his
fifth of more than one inning. He stranded two runners in the ninth after a
    single and a walk.

Duffy (4-8) yielded six runs on eight hits, two walks and a hit batter. He is
0-3 against the Indians this season and has lost eight in a row against them
    dating to May
    6 Vita
Vea Color Rush Jersey , 2015.

”It was belt high and right out over the plate for him to tattoo and that’s
what he did,” Duffy said of the grand slam. ”I hate that old song and dance
these things happen, bull, but these things do happen. And it’s happened to us a
lot lately. It’s really frustrating. I gave up six runs today, which means I
    didn’t pitch very well.”

It took Duffy 25 pitches to record an out with Lindor, Michael Brantley and
Jose Ramirez opening the game with singles. Ramirez’s single deflected off
Duffy’s glove to score Lindor. Alfonso’s fly to center scored Brantley with the
    second run.

”The first inning was a grind for Danny, 36 pitches, but he really did a
pretty good job of limiting the damage there with only two runs and kind of got
on a roll,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.

Lucas Duda homered with Rosell Herrera, who had three hits, on board to tie
it in the bottom of the first.

The Royals forged ahead 4-2 in the second. Whit Merrifield singled home
Adalberto Mondesi and scored on Herrera’s two-out double.

The Royals lost for the 24th time in 29 games. They did manage 12 hits,
ending a club record of 24 straight games without getting double-figure
    hits.

    ROSTER MOVES

Indians: Recalled OF Greg Allen from Triple-A Columbus, where he was hitting
.487 in a nine-game hitting streak at the time of the promotion. He hit .204 in
34 games earlier this season with Cleveland. ”It definitely helps to have gone
through it before,” Allen said. ”That just comes with experience.”

    DRAFT SIGNINGS

Indians: They signed their first two draft picks, Canadian high school C Noah
    Naylor and
    Cumming Ronald
Jones II Color Rush Jersey , Georgia high school RHP Ethan Hankins.
Naylor, the 29th overall pick, signed for $2,578,138, while Hankins, the 35th
    overall pick, signed for $2,246,022.

Royals: RHP Brady Singer, the 18th overall pick, signed for $4.25 million. He
was the college player of the year, going 12-3 with a 2.55 ERA as a Florida
    junior.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Indians: OF Lonnie Chisenhall (strained left calf) was placed on the disabled
list. This is the second straight year he has been set back by calf injuries. He
missed 50 games earlier this season with a left calf injury. He was out most of
the second half of last year with a right calf injury.

Guyer left in the ninth after fouling a pitch off his left knee. Francona
    said the X-rays were negative.

Royals: RHP Ian Kennedy (strained left oblique) was placed on the disabled
list retroactive to June 30th. . 3B Mike Moustakas (lower back spasms) was a
late scratch. Yost said his back tightened up after he lifted one of his
    children.

    UP NEXT

Indians: RHP Trevor Bauer is 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA in two starts this season
    against the Royals.

NEW YORK — Hours before the Atlanta Braves took the field at Yankee
    Stadium Authentic
Denzel Ward Jersey , as an air conditioning vent blew cold air inside a
sweltering third base dugout, manager Brian Snitker admitted he did not think
the youth would come together so quickly this season.

Snitker thought the Braves would do well but not necessarily possess the best
    record in the National League.

About 6 1/2 hours later, the Braves wrapped up another win due to some
youthful contributions and on Tuesday they can become the first team in the
National League to reach 50 victories when they continue a three-game series
    with the New York Yankees.

The Braves are on a four-game winning streak and 31-19 against opponents with
winning records after Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning
off David Robertson to give Atlanta a 5-3 victory.

“We’re ahead of where we thought we’d be,” Snitker said before the Braves
upped the NL’s best record to 49-34. “Going into the season, I don’t think we
expected to be sitting here on July 2 in first place.

“We all felt we were going to do really good. In all honesty with where we
were with our club and are, we’ve kind of surpassed what everybody thought the
first of March where we’d be. We’re a probably a better team than what we
    thought we were.”

Among the youthful players is Acuna, who at 20 years, 196 days is the
youngest Atlanta rookie to hit a game-winning homer in extra innings since
Andruw Jones (20 years, three days) did it April 26, 1997, against the San Diego
    Padres.

Acuna is batting .274 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 33 games. He also owns
six RBIs in extra innings, second most behind 21-year-old Ozzie Albies. The
Braves also are 9-3 when he drives in a run.

“I’m never really nervous in those situations, my adrenaline kind of helps
out,” Acuna said through an interpreter before adding he could never remember
    feeling nervous on the field.”

The Yankees (54-28) are 4-6 in their last 10 games after going 0-for-12 with
runners in scoring position and striking out 12 times.

“We want to put them out there more often than
    not Authentic
Connor Williams Jersey ,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “More often
than not we’ll come through in those situations.”

Aaron Judge hit his 23rd homer and walked twice but also couldn’t complete
the leaping catch on Acuna’s homer.

“I felt it hit my glove,” Judge said. “It didn’t go in. They got two runs. It
    was a tough play.”

Judge and the Yankees have only lost a series three times since April 19 and
are 45-19 in their last 64 games. They will attempt to do so after extensive use
of their bullpen trying to win Monday’s game.

Aroldis Chapman, David Robertson, Dellin Betances, Chad Green and Jonathan
Holder combined for seven innings and threw 114 pitches.

“Obviously we went through a lot of guys tonight, threw a lot of pitches,”
Boone said. “It’ll be a little bit of a challenge tomorrow, but we’ll work
    through it.”

Tuesday’s pitching matchup will feature young pitchers experiencing differing
degrees of success of late as Sean Newcomb starts for Atlanta against Domingo
    German.

After going 4-9 in 18 starts last season, he is 8-2 with a 2.71 ERA in 16
    starts in his second campaign.

Newcomb is coming off two straight no-decisions in home starts against the
Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds. He has allowed three runs or less in all
but two starts and allowed one run or less in eight outings, including six
    scoreless starts.

“He’s a lot more competitive than I was ever led to believe,” said Snitker
while noting how Newcomb’s changeup has developed into an effective pitch. “I
didn’t know him a lot. I hadn’t seen him a lot in the minor leagues and once he
came here, he’s a quiet guy, he doesn’t show a lot of emotion on the mound but
    he’s very competitive.”

German will make his 10th start and it might be viewed as an audition to stay
in the rotation until Masahiro Tanaka returns from a hamstring injury. German
will pitch one day before Tanaka makes a rehab start for Triple-A
    Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

German is 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA in nine starts and has shown some flashes but
also struggled. He followed up a three-start stretch where he fanned 28 in 19
innings against the New York Mets, Tampa Bay
    Rays Authentic
Bradley Chubb Jersey , and Seattle Mariners by struggling immensely in a
7-6 loss at Tampa Bay on June 24.

In his last start, German tied a career worst by allowing six runs on a
career-worst nine hits in three-plus innings. He threw 64 pitches to 19 hitters
and was pushed back, though he pitched a scoreless relief inning Wednesday at
    Philadelphia.

German’s only previous start against a National League team occurred June 9,
when he allowed three runs on five hits in six innings in a 4-3 win at the
    Mets.

The Minnesota Vikings are working through a quarterback quandary this
offseason, with three pending free agents.

They have ample space under the salary cap, around $50 million, and an
unfulfilled desire to produce a long-term answer at the position after years of
    questions.

Coach Mike Zimmer expressed caution about the strategy of spending their way
    out of the uncertainty.

”I think it’s really, really important that we understand that we’ve won 40
games in the last four years and we’ve done this by being pretty good on defense
for the most part,” Zimmer said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine in
Indianapolis. ”This year the offense was much better. Part of the reason we’ve
been winning games is because we’ve been staying in games on defense, we’ve been
a smart team, all those things.”

About half of the quarterbacks in the league are making an annual average of
$20 million, and the standard prices will only increase this month with Kirk
Cousins leading the list of soon-to-be free agents. Zimmer, for his part, pumped
the brakes on the notion of trying to win such a bidding contest.

”I want to be really careful about taking away from our strength … because of
    financial
    reasons Authentic
Frank Ragnow Jersey ,” Zimmer said.

Staying in step with what general manager Rick Spielman said Wednesday,
Zimmer told reporters the Vikings are still assessing the pros and cons of Case
Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater with the market set to open on March
    14. Zimmer said all three quarterbacks are ”definitely” under consideration.

Breaking with the guarded style of his boss, Zimmer pushed the candor button
at the podium. He acknowledged the realities and reservations of each of the
three players he’s had as the primary starter over the past three years.

”It’s important for myself and Rick and the organization to pick the right
guy that is going to help us continue to move forward,” Zimmer said. ”If we
don’t do that, then I’ll probably be fired.”

Keenum took over after Bradford hurt his knee following the season opener and
enjoyed a career-best performance, helping the Vikings reach the NFC
championship game. Before 2017, he’d just been a backup. Several times during
the year, Zimmer hinted at mild skepticism about Keenum’s ability to keep up
    such success.

”Is he the guy when he was at Houston or the Rams, or is he the guy who
played for us?” Zimmer said, repeating a similar line of questioning for
Bradford, who didn’t experience much success early in his career with St.
    Louis.

Bradford’s biggest issue is the knee, which Zimmer described as a
”degenerative” problem. There’s clearly no perfect answer for the Vikings in
    this complicated situation.

”At the end of the day, it’s a guess and a
    hunch Authentic
Jaire Alexander Jersey ,” Zimmer said.

Bridgewater presents the least-expensive option but also the least-known,
considering he last started a meaningful game more than two years ago. The
amount of time he missed while rehabilitating his knee injury has made it
difficult to evaluate his ability to lead the team for the next decade, as the
Vikings originally intended when they drafted him in the first round in
    2014.

”It’s really hard to evaluate just in practice. We have to go back a lot with
Teddy on what he’s done in the past, him as a person, his work ethic, all those
things. Him not playing for two years and not being able to see him play in live
situations, that’s concerning a little bit,” Zimmer said. ”But I love the guy.
He’s a great kid, great competitor, a winner.”

    America loves comeback
    stories Authentic
Tremaine Edmunds Jersey , the last-to-first variety that features new
stars, big plays and a monumental triumph at the end.

That would be the tale of the Philadelphia Eagles if they win Sunday’s Super
    Bowl.

The oddsmakers don’t see it happening and have installed the New England
Patriots – yes, them again – as 4+-point favorites.

Give Philly its due, however: The Eagles have a strong chance of winning
their first NFL crown since 1960 and their first Lombardi Trophy.

    Will they? Read on.

Doug Pederson’s bunch has shown the resilience of a champion, losing such key
players as quarterback Carson Wentz, a strong MVP contender, left tackle Jason
Peters, linebacker Jordan Hicks and running back Darren Sproles to injuries.

”It’s the next-man-up mentality,” Pederson says. ”It also means that you have
some veteran players that keep things together, and good coaching staffs. I
think it’s a tribute to the players and everyone involved that they can keep
things going even through that adversity.”

Philadelphia has not yielded a point in the second half of either playoff
game. It put 31 on the stingiest scoring defense in the league, and threw in a
defensive TD in routing Minnesota for the NFC championship. Its backup
    quarterback, Nick
    Foles Authentic
DJ Moore Jersey , has been everything from solid to spectacular in his
    career playoff games.

The Eagles can disrupt Tom Brady with a fierce pass rush up front, led by
Fletcher Cox, who has been the best defensive player in the entire postseason.
They have threats on offense in the passing game and at running back.

And they are facing a New England squad that has not been as powerful as some
of the teams Brady has led in seven previous Super Bowls, going 5-2.

Yet, don’t be misled. These are still the Patriots, probably the most
resourceful group of athletes on the planet. They make big plays, not only
thanks to Brady’s arm but on a defense that only recently began getting the
    praise it warrants.

Plus, they have all that experience in the big game, bringing 31 players back
    from last year’s championship roster.

”We know what to expect, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to perform,”
linebacker Kyle Van Noy said. ”So there’s really no upper hand. You’ve got to
just play the game and get ready for it and play at a high level.”

New England doesn’t always do that in the Super Bowl. Recall last February’s
    first 40 minutes or
    so Authentic
Donte Jackson Jersey , when it was down 28-3 to Atlanta before the Falcons
stopped charging and Brady led an historic rally.

The one consistency about the Patriots is that they play close Super Bowls.
The total difference in scoring in those seven games is 12 points: Patriots 169,
    opponents 157.

So do they pull out another close one, or does Philly complete its uplifting
    saga?

It all comes down to one thing: which team has Brady.

WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals will look to continue their domination
of the Baltimore Orioles when they play the penultimate game of this season’s
Beltway Series Wednesday night at Nationals Park.

Trea Turner went 4-for-4 with a homer, and Anthony Rendon drove in three runs
as the Nationals rallied for a 9-7 win on Tuesday night. Washington has won six
straight over Baltimore, including all four games this season.

Washington trailed 4-1 entering the fifth inning. Baltimore loaded the bases
but scored only one run, that coming on Manny Machado’s double-play grounder.
The Nationals loaded the bases and tied it with a four-run fifth and then won it
with four in the seventh as Rendon’s two-run double put them ahead.

“This team is starting to become relentless and when you start doing that you
put up runs late and that’s a good sign,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said
after his team collected 14 hits. “They kept pounding and pounding and pounding,
had a couple of big innings there and scored some runs.”

Adam Eaton had two hits and two RBIs for the Nationals (39-32), who have
outscored the Orioles by a combined 20-9.

    Turner Authentic
Rashaan Gaulden Jersey , moved down to the sixth spot in the lineup
Tuesday night, homered in the second inning, added a pair of singles and ended
his night with a double in the seventh.

“I feel like I’ve been getting decent pitches to hit, just fouling them off
or missing them and today it kind of clicked for me,” he said. “I’ve been trying
to make some adjustments and felt better.”

Baltimore (20-51) got two-run homers from Jace Peterson and Trey Mancini, and
a solo shot from Joey Rickard.

“There were a lot of good at-bats and walks and we didn’t get too overanxious
against their first pitcher, but we just weren’t able to stem the tide,” manager
Buck Showalter said after the Orioles lost for the 17th time in 20 games.

    Washington’s Gio Gonzalez (6-3, 3.01 ERA) opposes Andrew Cashner (2-8, 4.98)
in the middle game of the three-game set.

After a solid first two months of the season, Gonzalez has slipped in June.
In his last three starts he has given up 12 runs and 20 hits over 16 1/3 innings
(6.61 ERA), though Washington won two of the three.

    In his last
    start Authentic
Billy Price Jersey , he allowed five runs on nine hits over six-plus
innings in a loss to Toronto. He allowed two home runs after giving up just five
in his previous 13 starts this season.

Gonzalez is 2-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 11 career starts versus the Orioles,
though he pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a 6-0 win over Baltimore on May
    28.

Manny Machado is 5-for-16 against Gonzalez, while Adam Jones is 7-for-32 and
    Mark Trumbo 4-for-20.

Cashner will be activated off the disabled list after missing 10 days due to
lower back soreness. The 31-year-old right-hander will be looking to end a
personal three-game losing streak, during which the Orioles have scored a total
    of three runs.

Last time out, Cashner gave up three runs on nine hits over six innings in a
    5-1 loss at Toronto.

Cashner is 3-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 13 career games (eight starts) versus
    Washington.

Daniel Murphy is 6-for-12 against Cashner, Bryce Harper is 5-for-11, and
Anthony Rendon is 5-for-12 with a homer.

Marcel Hirscher is unbeatable in slalom right
    now Authentic
Daniel Sedin Jersey , and his World Cup win Sunday finally gave
    him victory at Wengen.

The Austrian star extended his first-run lead
to finish 0.93 ahead of Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway in a familiar
runner-up spot. Andre Myhrer of Sweden was third, 1.72 back.

    Hirscher’s
domination was so complete he also had the fastest time in the second
run, 0.34 quicker than Kristoffersen, by attacking his rival’s target
    rather than protecting his lead.

”I have been on the limits, especially on the steep part, so everybody is beatable,” Hirscher said.

    Hirscher’s
fifth straight success in slalom was the 53rd World Cup win of his
career yet a first at the storied Swiss course where he is a three-time
    runner-up.

”It’s something big for me. This was the last classic
race on the calendar that I haven’t won until today,” the reigning
    slalom world champion said.

Earning 100 World Cup points, Hirscher
stretched his lead over second-placed Kristoffersen in both the overall
and slalom season-long standings. Hirscher is the six-time defending
    overall champion.

Yet again at a post-race news conference, Kristoffersen was asked how it is possible to beat Hirscher on current form.

    ”He
is just better, that’s the way it is,” said the 24-year-old
    Norwegian Youth
Josh Allen Jersey , who has seven runner-up finishes this season
without a win. ”I will never give up, that’s for sure.”

    Hirscher
is third on the men’s all-time World Cup wins list and will be favored
to match the 54-win total of Austrian great Hermann Maier next weekend.
Appropriately, the World Cup circuit now moves to celebrated Austrian
    venue Kitzbuehel.

At age 28, Hirscher would need several more
years of consistent winning to catch the 86 wins of Ingemar Stenmark,
the Swedish great who raced slalom and giant slalom in the 1970s and
    80s.

Stenmark won Olympic gold medals in both technical races at
the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, and Hirscher shapes as favorite to repeat
the feat next month in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

    In the 2014
Sochi Olympic slalom, Hirscher and Kristoffersen took silver and bronze,
respectively, behind the now-retired Mario Matt of Austria.

    ”Right
now, Marcel is in a league of his own,” said
    Myhrer Kenny
Golladay Jersey , the 2010 Olympic bronze medalist.

In a World Cup comeback after three years out injured, Nolan Kasper of the United States placed 20th.

    The
28-year-old Kasper’s return could be in time to earn a third Olympic
selection. He placed 13th and 24th in the previous two Olympic slaloms.

    Kasper
was joined in the top 20 Sunday by another racer wearing a starting bib
number in the 50s. Ryunosuke Ohkoshi of Japan was 19th, 4.94 behind the
    winner.

Seattle Seahawks player Frank Clark has confirmed his father and three other family members have died in a Cleveland house fire.

    Clark
wrote in a tweet posted Sunday evening that his father, 44-year-old
Frank Clark III, died in the fire in the city’s East Side on Jan. 30.

    Fire
officials have not publicly identified the victims, but Clark’s aunt
tells Cleveland.com 46-year-old Alfonso Lathan Jr., his 4-year-old son
Alfonso Lathan III and 8-year-old granddaughter Niayah were also killed.

Fire officials say Alfonso Lathan’s wife, 44-year-old Gianna Latham, is being treated for severe burns.

    Officials
say the home’s smoke alarms were not working at the time of the fire.
Investigators have not determined what caused the blaze.

Jon Gruden has never had a
    promising Authentic
Dante Pettis Jersey , young quarterback like Derek Carr to develop in 11
seasons as an NFL head coach.

Carr hasn’t had the opportunity to play for a coach like Gruden, an offensive
mastermind known for his maniacal work ethic and attention to detail.

The way those two fare together will determine whether Gruden’s return for a
second stint as coach of the Oakland Raiders will end up as the resounding
success owner Mark Davis hoped for while pining for a reunion the past six
    years.

”I had a chance to visit with Derek Carr this morning and I said, `Derek,
this is an unbelievable opportunity and if you’ll just take advantage of the
opportunity, there’s so many great things in store for you, not only
professionally but personally,”’ said Rich Gannon, whose career took off after
joining Gruden in Oakland in 1999.

”Jon’s excited to work with Derek and Derek’s already a good player but he’s
got a chance to be a Hall of Famer and win multiple Super Bowls if he’ll just do
    the work.”

Carr will be tested and challenged like he hasn’t in his first four seasons.
Gruden is famous for arriving at work each day at 3:17 a.m., putting in long
    hours each week.

He will also ride Carr hard if necessary in order to bring out the best in
    his game.

”I don’t care how hard Derek worked before, he’s going to have to change his
work habits a little bit to fit in,” Gannon said.

Gannon became a star when he joined up with Gruden after 12 seasons as a
journeyman in Minnesota, Washington and Kansas City. He became a first-team
All-Pro in his second season with Gruden and won the league MVP the year after
Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay.

Carr showed he was capable of being a top quarterback when he garnered MVP
support in a breakthrough 2016 season. But he took a major step back this past
year after signing a $125 million, five-year extension.

He matched his career high with 13 interceptions and recorded his worst
totals in yards, touchdown and passer rating since his rookie year in 2014.

”I think there is a huge ceiling in Derek
    Carr Authentic
Vita Vea Jersey ,” Gruden said. ”I think he has proven that. Up to us as a
coaching staff to improve around him, get more consistent, and come up with an
offense that really allows him to soar into another level.”

Fixing Carr is just one of Gruden’s tasks. Getting receiver Amari Cooper back
on track is nearly as important. After beginning his career with back-to-back
1,000-yard seasons, Cooper took a major step back in 2017. He was plagued by the
drops that hurt him as a rookie and only topped the 100-yard mark twice all
season while finishing with career lows with 48 catches for 680 yards.

It was a puzzling drop-off for a receiver who entered the year considered one
of the top in the game. Hall of Famer Tim Brown said he believes Cooper could be
in for a 120-catch season if he listens to Gruden’s advice.

”Even for a guy like me, who was having a pretty good career, he was able to
take me to another level, showing me how much better I could be,” Brown said. ”I
thought I was doing pretty good. Sometimes you just have to turn your brain off
and buy in. If you can do that great things can happen.”

Even some of the greatest players in the game’s history credit Gruden for
some of their success. Hall of Famer Jerry Rice arrived in Oakland in 2001 as
the most accomplished receiver in NFL history but appeared to be on the decline
after failing to reach 1,000 yards in each of his final two seasons in San
    Francisco.

But he had a rebirth in Oakland under Gruden, catching 83 passes for 1,139
yards at age 39. He followed that up with 92 catches for 1,211 yards the
following season and compared Gruden to his former coach in San Francisco, Bill
    Walsh.

”Could be your best friend or your worst
    enemy Authentic
Ronald Jones II Jersey , that’s going to keep you on your toes,” he said.
”Maybe that was something that the players, they were lacking this year.
Sometimes you fall into listening to the talk but you need a coach that’s going
to keep you focused. With Jon Gruden, he’s that type of coach.”

While Gruden’s biggest impact is on offense, his leadership and intensity
translate to the entire team. Hall of Famer Howie Long has seen just about
everything. He played for 13 years, announced for more than two decades and has
    two sons in the NFL.

So Long knows what players want in a coach.

”They want to be great and they want to be led,” he said. ”They want to
believe in the guy in front of the room. I call it the Saran Wrap factor.
Players see right through that in the front of the room if you’re not authentic,
you’re not genuine, you’re not that way every day. … Jon has that.”

DENVER — When Andrew Suarez starts Wednesday for the San Francisco Giants, he
will try to help them avoid being swept by the Colorado Rockies and solidify his
spot in the Giants’ changing rotation.

Colorado left-hander Tyler Anderson (5-3, 4.23 ERA) will oppose Suarez (3-4,
    4.18).

Before his team lost 8-1 on Tuesday to the Rockies, Giants manager Bruce
Bochy announced that Johnny Cueto will be reinstated from the 60-day disabled
list to start Thursday against St. Louis and Jeff Samardzija will come off the
10-day disabled list and start Saturday against the Cardinals.

Cueto (elbow strain) went 3-0 with an 0.84 ERA in five starts for the Giants
this season. His last start for the Giants came April 28, and he pitched 7 2/3
scoreless innings in two rehab starts for Triple-A Sacramento.

    “Johnny’s set to
    go Authentic
M.J. Stewart Jersey ,” Bochy said. “He passed all the tests, checked every
box off. Been throwing the ball well. Hasn’t given up a run there. Bullpen
(session Monday) went fine. Been hitting, bunting. I talked to Johnny. He said,
‘I’m ready to go. I feel better now than before (the injury).’ When you get one
of your big guys ready to go, you pitch him.”

Bochy said Cueto would be limited to 85 pitches Thursday, and Derek Holland,
if he doesn’t come out of the bullpen in the Rockies series, would back up
    Cueto.

Samardzija will pitch for the Giants for the first time since May 29. Bochy
said that Dereck Rodriguez, who was scheduled to pitch Thursday, will instead
start Friday. Madison Bumgarner, of course, will take his regular turn Sunday.
That leaves Suarez or Chris Stratton for the final spot in the rotation. Both
    pitchers have minor league options.

Suarez might have the advantage because he has pitched well lately. He went
2-0 in six June starts, and in his last outing Friday at Arizona, he allowed one
run in six innings. Suarez made his Coors Field debut and first start against
the Rockies on May 28 and allowed four runs (three earned) in five innings in a
no-decision after heeding advice from catcher Buster Posey.

    Suarez
    said Authentic
Carlton Davis Jersey , “I remember the last time we were, before my
bullpen, Buster came up to me and he was like ‘As long as you keep throwing it
right, it’ll be fine. But if you try too much, that’s the problem you’ll have.
Your stuff isn’t as good.’ I just made sure to just throw it normal.”

    Meanwhile, Stratton gave up a career-high 11 hits and a career-high eight
runs in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday. In his past six starts, Stratton is 1-3 with a
    5.79 ERA.

Anderson threw a career-high eight scoreless innings with one walk and eight
strikeouts Wednesday at Los Angeles in a 3-1 win over the Dodgers. Anderson is
2-2 with a 2.70 ERA in his past five starts with six walks and 32 strikeouts in
33 1/3 innings. He’s 0-2 with a 5.56 ERA in four career starts against the
Giants, including a no-decision May 20 at AT&T Park where he gave up five
runs in 5 1/3 innings as the Rockies lost 9-5.

The Rockies have won 14 of their past 16 games from the Giants (45-42) at
Coors Field. The Rockies (43-43) have climbed back to .500 by winning five of
their past six games. They have been getting outstanding starting pitching, the
latest effort being seven scoreless innings Tuesday from Antonio Senzatela in
his first start this season for the Rockies.

The Colorado starters have pitched well in six of the past eight games, going
4-0 with a 2.15 ERA in that stretch and allowing 12 earned runs and 31 hits in
    50 1/3 innings with 11 walks and 41 strikeouts.

“We’re only going to go as far as they do,” Rockies third baseman Nolan
Arenado said. “They’re pitching great. They’re giving the offense a chance.
    Quick innings, which is huge.”

Toronto’s Randal Grichuk put on a show for hundreds of
friends and family that made the trek up to Houston to see him play just his
third career game at a ballpark only about 35 miles from his hometown of
    Rosenberg Marcus
Davenport Color Rush Jersey , Texas.

Grichuk hit a two-run homer and made a huge defensive play, helping the Blue
Jays beat the Houston Astros 6-3 on Monday.

”You can’t feel your body all game,” Grichuk said. ”You feel like you don’t
need to stretch or get loose. It’s just as special for me as I know it is for my
    family.”

Toronto also got two homers from Curtis Granderson against Justin Verlander,
but the night belonged to Grichuk in one special homecoming.

His soaring 471-foot home run, which clanged off the light pole above the
train tracks on the left-field wall, came against Will Harris and made it 6-3
with two out in the eighth.

Grichuk then reached over the short wall in right field to rob George
Springer of a homer with two on and no outs in the ninth.

”Those are the plays you dream of that you don’t really get too often,” he
said. ”But exactly what you hope for happened.”

Grichuk, who moved from center to right field in the bottom of the ninth, had
his back to the wall when he reached between two fans with gloves to make the
    grab.

Springer stopped running and bent down in disbelief when he realized Grichuk
    had robbed him.

”Baseball can be pretty cruel,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. ”That’s a
tough one. Right off the bat, I thought George got one. It carried and carried
and carried and looked like he had to go pretty deep into the stands to get
    it.”

Granderson’s leadoff shot in the fifth tied it at 3. He connected again with
two out in the seventh, belting an opposite-field drive off Verlander (9-3) into
the second row in the Crawford Boxes in left field.

”I’m not a huge fan of the Crawford Boxes right now,” Verlander said. ”The
one to right, I thought Curtis got pretty good. The one to left, I didn’t think
he got that one very good. But it’s the ballpark we play in. It’s fair for all
sides. I need to do a little bit better job.”

Verlander, who entered with a major league-best 1.60 ERA, allowed four runs
and seven hits – both season highs – in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and
walked two in his first loss since May 11.

Toronto’s J.A. Happ (10-3) yielded three runs and seven hits in six innings
in his sixth straight win. Seung-hwan Oh worked the ninth for his second

    Former Astro Teoscar
    Hernandez Saquon
Barkley Color Rush Jersey , who received his World Series ring in a
pregame ceremony, had three hits and Justin Smoak drove in two runs as the Blue
    Jays won their third straight.

Alex Bregman homered in the Astros’ third loss in 18 games.

Hernandez singled with one out in the first before Yangervis Solarte drew a
walk. Smoak’s two-out double lifted Toronto to a 2-0 lead.

Yuli Gurriel singled in Jose Altuve in the bottom half, and Bregman’s drive
to the seats in left tied it at 2 with one out in the third.

Bregman also singled in Jake Marisnick in the fourth, but the Blue Jays tied
it up again when Granderson sent the third pitch of the fifth inning into the
stands in right for his eighth homer this season.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Astros: RHP Joe Smith (right elbow inflammation) felt good after throwing a
bullpen on Sunday and will throw one more bullpen before likely beginning a
    rehabilitation assignment this weekend.

Blue Jays: RHP Aaron Sanchez (bruised finger on right hand) has less swelling
and discomfort and will start playing catch in the next few days.

    WHERE DID IT GO?

Granderson hit a foul pop in the first inning that got stuck in the park’s
rafters. Catcher Max Stassi threw off his mask and looked up as he waited for it
to come down, but it never did. Bregman soon trotted to the plate and started
looking up to see where it was, too. Verlander held his glove over the top of
his head for a few seconds, jokingly protecting himself if it happened to drop
near him. Granderson and the trio of Astros then laughed, and Granderson got
back in the box to resume his at-bat.

”I still have no idea what happened on that,” Granderson said. ”I’ve never
hit a ball that high before.”

Charlie Morton (9-1, 2.77 ERA) pitches for Houston on Tuesday, looking for
his 10th win. Morton allowed just two hits and one unearned run in six innings
of a 5-1 win over Tampa Bay in his last outing. The Blue Jays have yet to
    announce their Tuesday starter.

It took them nearly five hours to finish it, but the Minnesota Twins finally
picked up a much-needed win in Chicago.

Max Kepler drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded in the 13th inning for
the Twins, who outlasted the White Sox 2-1 on Thursday afternoon for just their
second victory in the last seven games.

The Twins pushed across the go-ahead run after Logan Morrison doubled off
left fielder Charlie Tilson’s glove. Hector Santiago (2-3), the sixth White Sox
reliever, intentionally walked Ehire Adrianza before walking Jake Cave and
    Kepler.

”That was a good one to win, for sure, not only because we lost the first two
    but it was a
    marathon Sam
Darnold Color Rush Jersey ,” Morrison said.

The Twins salvaged the third game of the series against the White Sox and now
move on to play three more contests in Chicago against the crosstown Cubs at
Wrigley Field starting on Friday afternoon.

Alan Busenitz (2-0), the sixth reliever for Minnesota, pitched 1 2/3 innings
    for the victory.

The Twins were one out from winning in the ninth inning, but closer Fernando
Rodney walked pinch-hitter Daniel Palka, a former Twins farmhand, on four
pitches to force in a run. Rodney quickly retired the first two hitters, but
Yolmer Sanchez singled to start the rally. Rodney hit Tim Anderson with a pitch,
and Tilson walked to load the bases before Palka came to the plate.

Rodney took his fourth blown save in 21 chances this season, ending a streak
    of 15 consecutive conversions.

”I told him postgame, `That’s a heck of a run,”’ manager Paul Molitor said.
”Today it was a two-out bloop and a change-up that he lost command of. Then he
    started scrambling a bit.”

Morrison hit his ninth home run deep to right to lead off the seventh for the
first run of the game. The drive was just Minnesota’s second hit off White Sox
starter Lucas Giolito, who didn’t allow any hits until Eddie Rosario lined a
double off first baseman Jose Abreu’s glove with one out in the sixth.

Twins starter Jake Odorizzi tossed six shutout innings in his best outing in
more than a month, allowing three hits and striking out eight. The righty, who
was 0-3 with an 8.77 ERA in his last six turns, said he’s been ”making
adjustments from start to start.” The White Sox hardly threatened to score when
    he was on the mound.

    WALKS IN THE PARK

Giolito recovered after walking the bases loaded in the first for his
lowest-scoring outing this season. The 6-foot-6 righty, who lowered his ERA from
7.01 to 6.59, allowed one run on four hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings. He
has issued the most walks in the AL with 51.

Giolito escaped the first without allowing a run despite throwing just 11 of
his first 26 pitches for strikes. Then he retired 13 straight Twins betters.

”I honestly didn’t have my rhythm until the last batter of the” first
    inning Dallas
Goedert Color Rush Jersey , Giolito said. ”I did a pretty good job of
filling the strike zone after that first inning. They put a lot of balls in
play, and the defense was great behind me.”

    NO WORRIES

Giolito said he was ”kind of” paying attention to his no-hit bid when it
reached the sixth inning. ”I probably would have been more aware of it if I had
taken it to the seventh or eighth,” he said.

    BOOTED FOR BAD WORDS

Anderson, Chicago’s shortstop, was ejected for the second time in his career
in the 11th inning when he argued with umpire Gerry Davis after being caught
stealing second. ”I kind of said some bad words,” Anderson said.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Twins: RF Taylor Motter hit the wall hard trying to catch Yoan Moncada’s
double in the sixth and will be re-evaluated for chest soreness. Motter stayed
down on the warning track for a couple of minutes while being tended to by a
team athletic trainer, but he remained in the game until Kepler pinch hit for
him in the seventh. … SS Jorge Polanco, almost done with an 80-game suspension
for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, was scheduled to DH in
one game and play SS in the other in a doubleheader for Triple-A Rochester on
Thursday. He can be reinstated on July 5.

White Sox: Sanchez left the game with a bruised left quadriceps in the 13th
after tripping on first base when he ran out a grounder. He’s day-to-day. …
Manager Rick Renteria said OF Nicky Delmonico (broken right middle finger) will
start swinging a bat soon, but he isn’t close to beginning a rehab
    assignment.

    UP NEXT

Twins: Ace RHP Jose Berrios (8-5, 3.15) takes the mound against LHP Mike
Montgomery (2-2, 3.39) when the Twins meet the Cubs on Friday. Berrios has won
his last three decisions over five starts in June and has a 2.10 ERA during the
    span.

White Sox: RHP Dylan Covey (3-2, 3.45) faces RHP Yovani Gallardo when Chicago
opens a three-game series at Texas on Friday. Covey left in the fifth inning of
his previous start last Saturday with a right hip flexor strain, but after
throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday he said he felt fine.

Eric Thames has a penchant for game-changing home runs this
    season.

Thames hit a two-run homer that accounted for the game’s only runs as the
Milwaukee Brewers slipped past the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Tuesday. Thames has
three home runs in the past six games.

    ”I’d say that’s a hot
    streak Josh
Jackson Color Rush Jersey ,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.

Eight of Thames’ 12 homers have put the Brewers on the board and seven have
    given his team a lead.

Milwaukee broke through in the fifth against Minnesota starter Jake Odorizzi
(3-6) when pinch-hitter Nate Orf walked and stole second before Thames lined a
homer that just cleared the right-field fence.

”It was a cutter that didn’t get in far enough,” Odorizzi said. ”I just
didn’t execute it, plain and simple. I just didn’t get enough break on it. Right
pitch, just bad execution and it turns out to be the deciding factor.”

Thames reached base three times in four at-bats. After the game, he credited
Milwaukee’s pitching, which held Minnesota to two hits.

”Our bullpen has been the hammer for us,” Thames said. ”They have been the
ones to pick us up, but we need to start scoring more, getting guys on base and
driving them in and give them breathing room.”

It wasn’t just the bullpen on this day.

Milwaukee starter Junior Guerra (5-5) pitched five shutout innings. He gave
up two hits while walking three and striking out eight and pitched out of a
bases-loaded jam in the first after giving up a double and two walks.

”Being able to put up a zero up there and not let them score was very big,”
Guerra said through team translator Carlos Brizuela. ”Walks are very lethal,
    especially for a starter.”

Josh Hader pitched a season-high three innings in relief for the Brewers and
didn’t allow a hit. Closer Corey Knebel notched his ninth save in 11 attempts by
striking out the side in the ninth.

Both starting pitchers held their opponents in check but struggled with high
pitch counts. Guerra threw 89 pitches. Odorizzi gave up two runs and four hits
in five innings. He walked four and struck out nine but threw 109 pitches.

The Twins fell to 1-7 on their current nine-game road trip.

    INFIELD INACTIVITY

The Twins became the first team whose first baseman, Joe Mauer, played an
entire game and had no putouts or assists since Edwin Encarnacion did it with
    Toronto against Baltimore on Aug.
    25 Taven
Bryan Color Rush Jersey , 2012. This has happened just six other times in
the past 20 years and never to the Twins.

”There wasn’t a ground ball today, which is a baseball oddity,” Molitor said.
”I can’t really explain it other than Odorizzi, we know, is a fly ball guy.”

    CHOKED UP

In the ninth, home plate umpire Marty Foster called Jake Cave out on strikes
but didn’t raise his arm right away with the signal, prompting an argument from
    Molitor.

”It looked like, as simply as I can state it, that he wasn’t going to make
the call,” Molitor said. ”Jake made the mistake of walking away, and it looked
like (Foster) put his arm up after the fact. He said that he had called it right
away but that he was choking on his Nicorette mints.”

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Twins: Recalled LHP Gabriel Moya from Triple-A Rochester and optioned RHP
Zack Littell to Rochester. Littell was the losing pitcher in Monday’s 10-inning
game. …2B Brian Dozier didn’t start so he could rest but entered the game in the
seventh. ”It’s always tough to sit (Dozier),” Molitor said. ”I think if he had
his druthers, he would play 162 games and start them all.”

Brewers: OF Christian Yelich didn’t start for the fifth consecutive game due
to lower back tightness but entered in the ninth as a defensive replacement.
..OF Lorenzo Cain (left groin strain) is eligible to come off the DL on
    Wednesday Minkah
Fitzpatrick Color Rush Jersey , but Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he
likely won’t be in the lineup right away. ”There’s enough caution there that
we’ve got to get over the last hurdle,” Counsell said. ”We’re not to 100 percent
yet.” … RHP Zach Davies (right shoulder tightness) is dealing with back soreness
and stiffness. ”He won’t throw until that’s gone,” Counsell said. ”That’s going
    to set him back.”

    UP NEXT

Twins: Jose Berrios (8-6, 3.52 ERA) gets the start in the three-game series
finale. Berrios will face the Brewers for the first time in his career.

Brewers: Chase Anderson (6-6, 4.18) has held opponents to a .208 batting
    average this season.

    —

Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Olson was quite clear about what the top
priority will be for coach Jon Gruden’s new staff with the Raiders.

Everything from the smallest details like how practice is conducted to bigger
decisions about personnel and scheme will be made with the thought of how it
will help Derek Carr develop into a top-flight NFL quarterback.

”We grow as Derek Carr grows,” Olson said Wednesday. ”We drafted this guy to
be that franchise quarterback. We feel like he has the potential to be that guy
that can be here and play for 10 more years. It’s up to us to try and get that
out of him. We’ll do everything in our power to make sure that that happens,
from practice to offseason programs, to what we’re doing defensively in
practice, all those things will be designed to help Derek’s growth.”

Carr showed steady improvement from his spotty play as a rookie in 2014 when
Olson served his first stint as offensive coordinator in Oakland to a
breakthrough 2016 season under Bill Musgrave that garnered him MVP support and
helped him earn a $125 million, five-year contract extension.

That steady ascension hit a speed bump last season as Carr played under his
third coordinator in four years after Todd Downing replaced the fired Musgrave.
Carr matched his career high with 13 interceptions and recorded his worst totals
in yards, touchdowns and passer rating since his rookie year.

”This guy has to get some continuity,” Olson said. ”The fact that they signed
Jon Gruden to a 10-year contract, that’s going to provide that stability that he
needs and the continuity that he’s going to need. He’s going to be in a system
now. He’s going to be coached by a head coach that’s going to be the
play-caller. He’s completely hands on with the quarterback
    position Mike
Hughes Color Rush Jersey , and that’s the first time Derek will have,
first time he’s going to have an offensive head coach that has a quarterback
background and will be hands on with him on a day-to-day basis. I just see that
growth curve skyrocketing because of that.”

Olson and new defensive coordinator Paul Guenther spoke to the media for the
first time since officially joining Gruden’s staff last week. Both coaches have
ties to Gruden, with Olson having worked as Gruden’s offensive coordinator and
quarterbacks coach in Tampa Bay in 2008 and Guenther considering Gruden’s
younger brother, Jay, one of his closest friends after spending three years
    together as assistants in Cincinnati.

The two coordinators had talked to Jon Gruden over the years about the
possibility of being on his staff if Gruden ever decided to return to coaching
and leaped at the chance soon after Gruden returned to the Raiders.

”Cincinnati made a strong push to keep me there, but the opportunity to come
out here with Jon and start this thing from the ground up was way too
intriguing,” Guenther said. ”I just looked at it as an opportunity I couldn’t
    refuse.”

Guenther will be tasked with rebuilding a defense that struggled the past two
seasons, leading to the midseason firing of coordinator Ken Norton Jr. The
Raiders improved a bit in the final six games under John Pagano but didn’t make
nearly enough impactful plays despite the presence of 2016 AP Defensive Player
    of the Year Khalil Mack.

The Raiders lacked enough consistent pass rushers and the secondary got
picked apart at times with rookies Gareon Conley and Obi Melifonwu missing
almost the entire season with injuries.

Guenther called Conley his ”favorite” cornerback in last year’s draft and
believes the pieces are in place starting with Mack to build a capable
    defense.

”Having a talent like that and ability of a guy like that, certainly you want
to make it the centerpiece of the defense,” he said. ”We have to continue to
develop our younger players to bring those guys up to speed and add people as we
go through the draft and free agency. He’s a guy that you can really build a
foundation through and around. He’s an exciting guy to be able to coach for
    sure.”

NOTES: Guenther called NaVorro Bowman a ”prototypical” middle linebacker and
hopes he doesn’t leave in free agency. … Olson was noncommittal about the status
of RB Marshawn Lynch, saying he would be doing him a ”disservice” by evaluating
his play in 2017 before taking a more thorough look at the film.

A look at what’s happening around baseball today:

    CHECK HIM

The Chicago Cubs might have further word on Yu Darvish after the Japanese ace
said he felt soreness in his troubled triceps tendon following a minor league
rehab start. Darvish hasn’t pitched in the majors since May 20 because of right
triceps tendinitis. He threw five sharp innings for Class A South Bend on
    Monday Ryan
Kelly Jersey , and was set to rejoin the Cubs during their series at
    Dodger Stadium.

”In the triceps there’s likeliness to get more fatigue there, especially if
there’s a long gap between innings,” he said through a translator. ”That’s when
I feel fatigue there. Not necessarily pain, but I can’t for sure say there is
nothing going on in the tricep zone.”

    NIMMO NEEDED

The Mets take a seven-game skid into their game against Pittsburgh, but at
least they may get their most productive hitter back. Brandon Nimmo has a sore
right pinkie after getting hit by a pitch
    Sunday Peyton
Manning Jersey , but an MRI showed no broken bones and he is day to day.
He didn’t start Monday but entered as a pinch-runner in the eighth inning and
stayed in the game to play left field. The Mets have also lost 14 of 15 at home
and are 13-25 at Citi Field this season.

    ACES ALONG I-95

Aces Luis Severino and Jake Arrieta square off as the Yankees continue a
series in Philadelphia. Severino (11-2, 2.24) has never faced the Phillies, and
Arrieta (5-5, 3.42) is 3-1, 3.83 in seven career starts vs. New York. The
Yankees won the series opener Monday in their first appearance at Citizens Bank
Park since beating the Phillies in the 2009 World Series. The Yankees improved
    to 14-14 against the
    Phillies Quenton
Nelson Jersey , leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers as the only team they have
a losing record (6-7) against in the regular season.

    ON THE SKIDS

Carlos Martinez has lost three straight decisions entering a tough test
against Corey Kluber and the Indians. Martinez (3-4, 3.24) hasn’t won since May
2, and St. Louis has dropped his past five starts, a span in which he has a 7.06
ERA. Kluber (11-3, 2.10) pitched seven innings of one-hit ball in a 12-0 victory
over the White Sox in his previous outing.

    COLLEGES

Oregon State and Arkansas begin the College World
    Series Darius
Leonard Jersey , a day after the opener in their best-of-three matchup was
rained out in Omaha. Luke Heimlich (16-2) starts for Oregon State against the
    Razorbacks’ Blaine Knight (13-0).

A two-time Pac-12 pitcher of the year, Heimlich was not picked in this
month’s Major League Baseball draft. He wasn’t with the team at last year’s
College World Series after it was revealed he had pleaded guilty to molesting a
young relative when he was 15. He served two years’ probation and went through a
treatment program, but later denied wrongdoing in interviews with Sports
Illustrated and The New York Times.

Lindsey Vonn led by a large margin in the
opening training session for a World Cup downhill on the Olympia delle Tofane
    course Wednesday.

Vonn held a 0.95-second advantage over Sofia Goggia of Italy and was 2.02
ahead of American teammate Jacqueline Wiles.

In a strong showing for the American and Italian teams, Alice McKennis of the
United States was fourth and Federica Brignone of Italy was fifth.

Vonn has won only one race this season and will be looking to step up
preparations for next month’s Pyeongchang Olympics on a course where she holds a
    record 11 wins.

Vonn recorded her first podium result in Cortina in 2004.

After another training session Thursday, downhill races are scheduled for
    Friday and
    Saturday Jaire
Alexander Color Rush Jersey , followed by a super-G on Sunday.

Julio Teheran was confident he could shake off his slow start
against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. Atlanta Braves manager Brian
    Snitker was not so sure.

Teheran walked the first two batters he faced and then buckled down to retire
15 of the next 16 as the Braves rolled to a 5-1 win over the Cardinals.

Teheran (6-5) allowed just two hits over six shutout innings. He struck out
four and did not walk a batter after issuing two free passes over his first 13
    pitches.

”The (heat) was kind of bothering me a little bit at
    first T.Y.
Hilton Jersey ,” Teheran said. ”Then, I started concentrating on the game.
When you get your head into what you want to do, everything else is
    secondary.”

    Snikter was initially concerned.

”The first two or three batters, I was wondering if he was going to make it
through,” Snitker said. ”Then he just kind of righted himself and he was sharp,
efficient. His stuff was really good.”

It marked the fifth time this season that Teheran tossed six or more
    scoreless innings in 16 starts.

”He threw us a bunch of strikes and just kept guys off base,” St. Louis
infielder Matt Carpenter said. ”He kept us off balance.”

Johan Camargo had three hits including a two-run double to help Atlanta win
for only the fourth time in 13 games in St. Louis since the start of the 2016
    season.

”We believe in ourselves and everything is possible,” Camargo said.

Dan Winker recorded his first major league save by retiring the only two
    batters he faced.

Miles Mikolas (8-3) gave up one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for the
Cardinals, who have lost two straight.

”I felt pretty good out there,” Mikolas said. ”It was tough dealing with the
heat the first couple innings, but after
    that Denzelle
Good Jersey , I think I settled in.”

The Braves used successive singles by Camargo, Dansby Swanson and Danny
Santana to load the bases with one out in the seventh. Austin Gomber relieved
Mikolas and his first pitch glanced off Ender Inciarte’s helmet for a 1-0
    lead.

Camargo slapped a two-run double off Jordan Hicks in the eighth to push the
lead to 3-0, and Swanson capped off the three-run inning with a run-scoring
    single.

Swanson also had three hits, trying a season high.

Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies singled in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to a
career-high nine games, and later scored on Nick Markakis‘ sacrifice fly.

Kolten Wong grounded into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded in the
bottom of the ninth as the Cardinals avoided a shutout.

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Braves: C Tyler Flowers left the game with a right hamstring cramp after
flying out to end the sixth inning. The game-time temperature was 92 degrees, ”I
did everything I could to prepare for it,” Flowers said. ”No answer.”

… OF Ronald Acuna Jr. returned to the lineup on Friday after missing 27 games
with a left knee sprain. He went 0 for 4 … RHP Brandon McCarthy was placed on
the 10-day disabled list with right knee tendinitis. … RHP Matt Wisler was
    recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Cardinals: INF Paul DeJong went 1 for 3 in his first rehab start with
Triple-A Memphis on Friday. DeJong, who has missed 38 games with a fractured
bone in his left hand, is likely to be recalled on Monday. … RHP Matt Bowman
also began a rehab stint on Friday in Memphis. He has been sidelined with
blisters and numbness in his fingers.

    UP NEXT

RHP Luke Weaver (4-6, 4.59) will face LHP Max Fried (0-2, 4.09) in the second
of the three-game series on Saturday. Weaver struck out a season-high nine
batters in an 8-2 win at Milwaukee on June 24. Fried was scratched from a
scheduled start at Gwinnett on Friday.

SAN FRANCISCO — Right-hander Jack Flaherty returns to the scene of his major
league debut last September when he closes out a four-game series for the St.
Louis Cardinals against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon.

    Flaherty
    (3-4 Anthony
Castonzo Jersey , 3.19 ERA) will attempt not only to give the Cardinals a
3-1 win in the four-game series but to reward manager Mike Matheny with his
fifth series win in seven return visits to San Francisco, where he played the
final two years of his career.

Matheny has never lost a series as a manager in San Francisco, winning four
and tying the other two. He is assured of at least a tie in this one as well,
with the Cardinals having posted 11-2 and 3-2 wins sandwiching a 3-2 loss on
    Friday night.

Flaherty was just 21 years old when he debuted for the Cardinals last Sept. 1
in an 11-6 win in San Francisco.

He did not get credit for the win, going only four innings, during which he
was roughed up for five runs and eight hits. He’s thus 0-0 with an 11.25 ERA
    against the Giants.

Brandon Crawford doubled and homered against Flaherty, and Hunter Pence
    lashed a two-run triple.

The California native will be seeking to snap a two-game losing streak. He
has allowed eight runs and 10 hits in 10 innings in losses to Cleveland and
    Arizona.

Flaherty will be backed by a Cardinals defense that has been superb against
the Giants, having committed just one error in the three games. That lone miscue
was an errant throw by backup catcher Francisco Pena on a steal attempt.

“That’s kind of the initiative we have going on right now: bolstering our
defense,” Matheny noted Saturday. “Let’s play a cleaner defensive game. And then
hope that we get contributions offensively. Let’s figure out ways to make sure
we’re catching the ball to help reinforce the great starts that we’ve been
    getting.”

Luke Weaver, John Gant and Carlos Martinez have provided that pitching in San
Francisco. The Giants have totaled just seven runs in the series, extending to
six games their streak of scoring three or fewer.

Martinez even contributed an RBI double to Saturday’s win.

The Giants have hit a cumulative .167 in their last six
    games Johnny
Unitas Jersey , five of which they’ve lost.

San Francisco will be counting on ace Madison Bumgarner (1-3, 2.58) to
contribute both on the mound and at the plate in the series finale.

The Giants have supported their pitching leader with just 14 runs in his six
starts. He hasn’t helped his own cause; the slugger with 17 career homers has
gone 0-for-14 so far this season.

The left-hander has pitched brilliantly in his last three starts, allowing
just three runs (two of which were earned) and 12 hits in 21 innings.

Bumgarner often has not been at his best against the Cardinals in his career,
going 3-5 with a 4.38 ERA in eight starts. He hasn’t beaten St. Louis since
    2014.

One player who has never figured out Bumgarner is Kolten Wong, who has been
the big hitter in the series with six hits, including a double and a triple, and
    two RBIs.

He’s 0-for-9 with two strikeouts in his career against Bumgarner.

Nick Pivetta is hoping to get back on track as the Philadelphia Phillies go for their first series win in three weeks.

Pivetta will take the mound to face left-hander Tyler Anderson and the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

A right-hander Bart Starr Jersey , Pivetta (4-5, 3.76 ERA) has a 5.79 ERA over his last three starts and opponents are hitting .294 against him in those games. Pivetta picked up a loss in all three of those outings, including last Thursday when he gave up four earned runs on six hits in five innings against the Cubs.

Pivetta made one start against the Rockies in his two-year major league career, and it did not go well. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings on Aug. 5, 2017 at Coors Field.

The Phillies held on for a 5-4 win in the series opener against the Rockies on Tuesday night and got a 10-strikeout performance from right-hander Aaron Nola and a four-RBI night from Scott Kingery. The win was the second in a row for the Phillies (34-30), marking the first time since May 16-17 that they won back-to-back games.

If they win one of the next two against the Rockies, the Phillies will have their first series win since taking two of three from the Braves on May 21-23.

The Rockies, meanwhile, are on a five-game losing streak. It’s their longest skid of 2018 and the worst losing streak the team has had since it lost eight straight games from June 21-28 in 2017.

The Rockies have been outscored 41-24 during their last five games and, at 32-34, are two games below .500 for the first time since they were 5-7 on April 10.

Anderson (3-1, 4.81 ERA) is coming off one of his best starts of the year. He matched his season best with seven innings and gave up just two runs on five hits to the Reds while striking out five.

“That was a very solid outing,” Rockies manager Bud Black told MLB.com of Anderson after the start. “I thought the changeup was really effective. He commanded the fastball well.”

Anderson has previously faced the Phillies three times in his career and is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA and 1.313 WHIP.

Anderson will face Kingery Bryan Bulaga Jersey , a rookie, for the first time in his career. Kingery has been the Phillies’ everyday shortstop for the past two weeks and his four RBIs on Tuesday night tied a career high.

Kingery’s batting average is only at .215 through 200 at-bats this season, but he’s had multi-RBI games twice in his last five contests.

“That’s how you want to start a series, especially against a good team like this,” Kingery, who hit a three-run homer in the first inning, told NBC Sports Philadelphia after the win. “You want to be the first team to score. Nola did a great job right before that. This kind of gives us some momentum.”

Rick Porcello hit a three-run double off former teammate Max Scherzer and pitched six effective innings, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday night.

Porcello got his first career extra-base hit came in the second inning on a 0-2 pitch after the Nationals intentionally walked Jackie Bradley Jr. Porcello drove Scherzer’s 96-mph fastball over the head of Juan Soto in left center for his first RBIs since 2009.

Scherzer and Porcello were teammates for five seasons with the Detroit Tigers.

Porcello (10-3) allowed two runs and seven hits. Craig Kimbrel got four outs for his 25th save.

Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon and Daniel Murphy homered for the Nationals. Scherzer (10-5) struck out nine in six innings.

    BRAVES 5, YANKEES 3, 11 INNINGS

NEW YORK (AP) – Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning that nicked the glove of a leaping Aaron Judge in right field, and the Braves beat the Yankees in a matchup of two of baseball’s best teams.

Johan Camargo homered early and Jesse Biddle (2-0) pitched out of a late jam for the NL East leaders, who earned their fourth consecutive victory. A.J. Minter got three outs for his fourth save.

The 20-year-old Acuna also doubled and drove in three runs Dave Robinson Jersey , four years to the day after the touted rookie signed with the Braves (49-34).

Judge hit his 23rd homer for the Yankees (54-28), and second in two nights. David Robertson (5-3) got the loss.

    INDIANS 9, ROYALS 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Francisco Lindor homered twice and drove in a career-high seven runs, powering Cleveland to the road win.

Indians ace Corey Kluber (12-4), who failed to make it out of the second inning in his previous start at St. Louis, allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings.

Lindor belted a grand slam in the fourth and a three-run shot in the sixth.

Whit Merrifield homered on Kluber’s third pitch for his fourth career leadoff home run. Kansas City has lost 23 of their last 28 games.

Royals right-hander Jakob Junis (5-10) was tagged for nine runs, eight earned, and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

    CARDINALS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 3

PHOENIX (AP) – Yadier Molina homered, Carlos Martinez pitched six effective innings and the Cardinals ended a four-game losing streak.

Molina hit a two-run single in the Cardinals’ four-run first inning against Robbie Ray (3-1) and hit his 12th homer off the left-hander in the sixth.

Jedd Gyorko also homered and had two RBIs to end Ray’s nine-game winning streak, dating to last season.

Martinez (5-4) allowed two runs and six hits. Bud Norris worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save.

Paul Goldschmidt had four hits and an RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have lost four straight.

ROCKIES 5 Ryan Jensen Color Rush Jersey , GIANTS 2

DENVER (AP) – Kyle Freeland turned in another sizzling start at Coors Field and Colorado scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on a throwing error by shortstop Brandon Crawford.

Freeland (8-6) settled in to go seven strong innings after surrendering a homer to Gorkys Hernandez on the first pitch of the game. It was Freeland’s 12th quality start of the season.

Wade Davis worked his way around a one-out double by Buster Posey in the ninth for his 24th save. He struck out Crawford to end the game.

San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner (1-3) was charged with three runs, two earned, and seven hits in six-plus innings.

    BREWERS 6, TWINS 5, 10 INNINGS

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Brad Miller drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning, sending Milwaukee to the win.

Nate Orf, playing in his first major league game, was hit by a pitch from Zack Littell (0-2) leading off the 10th. Manny Pina followed with a single and Keon Broxton walked.

Hernan Perez then bounced into a fielder’s choice before Miller’s walk ended the game.

Corey Knebel (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for the Brewers, who trailed 5-1 after Robbie Grossman hit his first career grand slam in the fifth.

    MARLINS 3, RAYS 2, 10 INNINGS

MIAMI (AP) – Yadiel Rivera’s infield hit in the 10th inning scored Brian Anderson, lifting Miami to the victory.

Anderson walked against Ryne Stanek (1-2) and took third on a single by J.T. Realmuto. Rivera, who entered as a defensive replacement in the ninth Jack Mewhort Jersey , then pulled a one-hopper up the line.

Third baseman Matt Duffy backhanded the ball and double-clutched in foul territory before making a wild throw home, but the play was ruled a hit.

Tampa Bay has lost 21 one-run games, most in the majors.

Drew Rucinski (3-1) pitched a perfect 10th for the win.

    REDS 5, WHITE SOX 3

CINCINNATI (AP) – Alex Blandino’s double in the eighth inning completed Cincinnati’s four-run rally.

The Reds loaded the bases with one out against Chris Volstad (1-5). Adam Duvall grounded to first baseman Matt Davidson, who was indecisive. He took several steps toward first before throwing home too late to get Scooter Gennett scoring from third base.

Billy Hamilton followed with a sacrifice fly that tied it at 3, and Blandino’s pinch-hit double put the Reds in position for another comeback win. They’ve trailed in seven of their last 10 victories.

Dylan Floro (3-2) retired two in the eighth. Raisel Iglesias pitched the ninth for his 16th save in 18 chances.

    TIGERS 3, BLUE JAYS 2

TORONTO (AP) – Jose Iglesias hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, and the Tigers earned their second straight victory following a season-long 11-game losing streak.

Niko Goodrum tripled off Seunghwan Oh (4-3) with one out and scored the winning run when Iglesias followed  less

    http://www.steelersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-james-washington-jersey
, Calif. — Two pitchers who figure to have big rooting audiences are
scheduled to go head-to-head Wednesday night when the Houston Astros and
Oakland Athletics continue their three-game series.

    The Astros
got the jump on the A’s in the series opener Tuesday, winning 6-3 on the
strength of Evan Gattis‘ career-best five RBIs and Lance McCullers
    Jr.’s strong seven-inning outing.

In an attempt to beat the A’s
for the seventh time in eight meetings this season, the Astros will send
right-hander Gerrit Cole (7-1, 2.16 ERA) to face Oakland righty Paul
    Blackburn (1-0, 1.50).

Cole, a native of Newport Beach, Calif.,
near Los Angeles, has pitched brilliantly in his home state in his major
league career. The UCLA product, who spent his first five seasons
pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates before getting dealt to the Astros
over the winter, has gone 9-2 when pitching in San Diego, Los Angeles,
    San Francisco and Oakland.

He’s 14-6 overall against the five California teams.

    The
27-year-old joined the San Francisco Bay Area family on Nov. 12, 2016
    Youth
Derwin James Jersey , when he married Amy Crawford, the sister of
Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford. Both Amy and Brandon attended Amador
Valley High in Pleasanton, Calif., an Oakland suburb.

    Cole
didn’t disappoint his new fans when he pitched six strong innings,
allowing one run and four hits, in a 4-1 win at Oakland on May 9. It
improved his career record to 1-1 with a 2.75 ERA in three starts
    against the A’s.

Cole once again will have to deal with A’s
outfielder Stephen Piscotty, who attended Amador Valley at the same time
as the Crawfords. Piscotty has gone 6-for-21 with two doubles in his
    career against Cole.

Blackburn, meanwhile, starred at Heritage High in Brentwood, Calif., which is about 40 miles northeast of Oakland.

    Blackburn,
acquired from the Seattle Mariners last season, has made six starts for
the A’s in Oakland, including one this season.

    He pitched
brilliantly in that lone 2018 Oakland start Thursday after being
    promoted from Triple-A
    Youth
Uchenna Nwosu Jersey , limiting the Kansas City Royals to one run
and three hits in six innings in a 4-1 victory.

Blackburn has never lost a home start for the A’s, going 2-0 in his six outings.

He has never faced the Astros.

    The
24-year-old admitted the season debut coupled with his family and
friends in attendance nearly got the better of him in his last start.

    “I’m
not usually like that,” he insisted. “I have nerves coming into every
start, but not like this was. I think it was excitement.”

    Blackburn
will have to deal with another A’s opponent who still commands a
favorable reception in Oakland when he goes against Astros outfielder
    Josh Reddick.

Reddick, one of the A’s clubhouse leaders during
his five seasons in Oakland, was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in
August 2016 in a deal that brought impressive young right-hander Frankie
    Montas to the A’s.

Reddick had two hits and scored twice Tuesday and is 4-for-11 versus the A’s in Oakland this season.

There will be a Turner family reunion in Charlotte.

    The
Carolina Panthers hired Norv Turner on Friday as their new offensive
coordinator to replace Mike Shula, who was fired earlier in the week
after seven seasons with the team.

    Turner, 65 inherits an offense
that includes a unique talent in quarterback Cam Newton, versatile
running back Christian McCaffrey, reliable tight end Greg Olsen and a
solid offensive line. However, while the Panthers finished 12th in the
league scoring in 2017, they were just 28th in passing.

He’s the latest member of the Turner family to join the Panthers.

    His
brother, Ron Turner, works as the team’s offensive consultant and
nephew Cameron is the assistant quarterbacks coach. Turner is expected
to bring son Scott Turner on as quarterbacks coach.

    Ron Rivera
worked as defensive coordinator for Turner when he was the head coach of
the San Diego Chargers before Rivera joined the Panthers as head coach
in 2011. They have remained close friends.

    ”Norv has coached Hall
    of Famers
    Youth
Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jersey , he’s set a lot of people on the
career paths that they’ve had,” Rivera said in a news release Friday.
”I’m excited about his knowledge and his offensive prowess. It’s going
to be invaluable to us have him evaluate our personnel and help take our
    quarterback to another level.”

Turner comes to Carolina with a
wealth of experience, having coached 32 seasons in the NFL, including 15
seasons as a head coach and 11 as an offensive coordinator. As
offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys (1991-93), he helped the
    Cowboys win two Super Bowls.

He last worked with the Minnesota
Vikings in 2016, but that ended abruptly with Turner resigning after
seven games with the offense ranked 31st in the league.

    Turner
had been hired in 2014 by first-time head coach Mike Zimmer in
Minnesota. Turner and his son Scott, the quarterbacks coach for the
Vikings at the time, played a key part in the decision to draft Teddy
Bridgewater with the last pick in the first round. Bridgewater took over
as the starter three games into his rookie year and showed improvement
in his second season, though the Vikings were a defense-driven,
run-first team that didn’t ask Bridgewater to take over games.

    But
the Vikings ranked just 27th and 29th in the NFL in total yards in
Turner’s first two years and 20th and 16th in scoring, with a rushing
title for Adrian Peterson in 2015 the most notable accomplishment.

    Zimmer
wasn’t satisfied, bringing in two new offensive assistants who’d been
NFL head coaches before: Pat Shurmur to coach the tight ends and Tony
Sparano to coach the offensive line.

    The Vikings went 11-5 in
2015 to win the NFC North and started 5-0 in 2016 until an
injury-ravaged, vulnerable offensive line contributed to the collapse.

    Bridgewater’s
progress had been painfully thwarted right before that regular season
started by a dislocated knee and multiple ligament tears, but emergency
acquisition Sam Bradford was playing well in his place. But after the
offense struggled in two straight losses on the road following the
    five-game winning streak
    Youth
Thomas Rawls Jersey , Turner stunned Zimmer by resigning his
    post.

Still, he has the respect of his former players.

”He has a history of developing quarterbacks. His track record speaks volumes,” Bridgewater said.

Bridgewater said Turner will be good for Newton, who is coming off his two worst seasons in terms of quarterback.

    ”Carolina
actually ran a similar system to what Norv runs. So, it won’t be too
much transitioning,” Bridgewater said. ”They still throw those deep
balls down the field, deep over routes, deep daggers.”

Vikings wide receiver Jarius Wright said he enjoyed playing for Turner and also think he will be good coach for Newton.

    ”Cam
does a lot of good things that Norv likes to get done,” Wright said.
”Also, I don’t know if you remember a couple years ago how we used
Jerick McKinnon and they have Christian McCaffrey. A lot of ways they
can get a chance to spread the ball out.”

Bridgewater will be interested to see what happens in Carolina.

    ”He
loves pushing the ball down the field, heavy play action,” Bridgewater
said. Let’s ”see if he made some changes with this year off or if he’s
just been playing golf and sitting on the lake.”

    Standing in foul
    territory Youth
Christian McCaffrey Jersey , Steven Matz stared at the ball he had just
mishandled and started to give it an angry kick, then changed his mind and
    instead just picked it up.

Matz and the New York Mets keep their cool Sunday, barely, overcoming three
errors and escaping the NL East cellar after a one-day stay by beating the Miami
    Marlins 5-2.

The Mets, who endured their worst June ever, won for only the second time in
the past 12 games to reach the season’s halfway point at 33-48.

”We’re all disappointed with where we’re at,” Matz said. ”We had higher
expectations. We’re just going to keep pushing.”

Matz (4-5) did that in the series finale, when he pitched 5 1/3 innings and
allowed only an unearned run. It scored on his error, and he worked around
misplays by two teammates – an encouraging sign from a pitcher still learning
    not to let setbacks snowball.

”You still see him get a little flustered out there,” manager Mickey Callaway
said. ”But he regroups and makes the next pitch. Today he won the game for us
because he did that, because they easily could have tacked on some runs there
early. He held them right where he needed to hold them.”

New York’s bullpen leads the majors in losses but limited Miami to one hit in
the final 3 2/3 innings. Jeurys Familia completed the four-hitter with a perfect
    ninth for his 15th save.

Asdrubal Cabrera hit his 14th homer off Dan Straily (3-4). Todd Frazier had
    two hits and scored three
    times Womens
Christian McCaffrey Jersey , and Kevin Plawecki doubled home New York’s
    first run.

Straily allowed three runs in seven innings, matching his longest outing of
the year. Cameron Maybin hit his first homer for the Marlins, but they slipped
back into last place in the division.

”We just didn’t do a whole lot with Matz,” manager Don Mattingly said.
”That’s probably the best I’ve seen him.”

Matz loaded the bases with two out in the second by walking Straily, an .056
career hitter, but then struck out Starlin Castro to escape.

Matz also reached behind his legs to snare Lewis Brinson’s grounder and
retire him in the fourth. But the left-hander failed to come up with Straily’s
safety squeeze bunt with two out in the inning, allowing Miguel Rojas to score
    from third.

”If I had taken my time I would have had him, but I rushed it,” Matz
    said.

    MISCUES

Callaway talked before the game about how the Mets needed to play better
defense, but they didn’t. Second baseman Cabrera and third baseman Frazier
    misplayed grounders for errors.

Miami misplays in the eighth led to the Mets’ final two runs. Center fielder
Brinson failed to catch Frazier’s drive after a long sprint, and the play was
    ruled an RBI double.

    ”He probably should have caught
    that Youth
Greg Olsen Jersey ,” Mattingly said. ”I know they gave him a hit there,
but if you ask him he gets to that ball and catches that pretty much all the
    time.”

Frazier then came home on a wild pickoff throw by catcher J.T. Realmuto.

    UNEXPECTED CONTRIBUTION

Matz was 2 for 26 this year before he hit a two-out single in the fourth for
his first RBI of the season.

”I was in a slump,” he said, ”but I’m out of it now.”

    NIMMO SLUMP

The Mets’ Brandon Nimmo, hit by a pitch on his right hand a week ago, went 0
for 5 and is in a 1-for-19 slump.

”I’m super late. My bat speed is not there,” he said. ”But my hand feels
    fine.”

    TRAINER’S ROOM

Mets: INF Dominic Smith, who had a cortisone shot for his sore right wrist,
pinch-hit in the eighth and flied out. … OF Jay Bruce (hip) is expected to begin
taking batting practice in the next few days.

    UP NEXT

Mets: After an off day, RHP Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.47) is scheduled to start
    Tuesday at Toronto.

    Marlins: LHP Wei-Yin Chen
    (2-5 Womens
Greg Olsen Jersey , 6.14) is scheduled to start Monday against Tampa Bay
    to begin a three-game series.

    —

Cincinnati’s Matt Harvey will try to build on the momentum from his last
start, but he’ll have to do it against a team that has handled the right-hander,
even when he was in his top form.

Harvey (2-5, 5.66 ERA) will start the second game of a three-game series
against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. The Braves will counter with veteran
    Anibal Sanchez (3-1, 2.55).

The Braves won the series opener 5-4 in 11 innings on Monday to end
Cincinnati’s seven-game winning streak. Atlanta leads the season series 3-2.

“It’s starting to come around,” Harvey said. “We have been watching a lot of
video, making sure everything stays the same throughout the start.”

Harvey defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-2 in his last start and allowed two runs
in six innings, striking out six. That broke a three-game losing streak and
improved his record to 2-3 with Cincinnati, which he joined on April 8 in a
trade that sent catcher Devin Mesoraco to the New York Mets.

“(The Cubs game) was a lot closer,” Harvey said. “It’s trusting your
mechanics and the work that goes in between starts.”

But in 13 career starts against Atlanta, Harvey is 3-7 with a 5.27 ERA. He
appeared in two games against the Braves while with the Mets and went 0-1 with a
12.37 ERA. In his only start against Atlanta in
    2018 Youth
JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey , Harvey allowed six runs in six innings.

Sanchez has been the biggest surprise of the season for Atlanta. Picked up
late in spring training, the right-hander has provided consistency in the back
end of the rotation. After missing a month with a hamstring injury, Sanchez has
made five starts and gone 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA.

He was roughed up a bit at Toronto in last start, giving up four runs on five
hits and four walks in five innings.

Sanchez has not faced the Reds this season. In four career starts against
Cincinnati, Sanchez is 2-2 with a 2.52 ERA. He threw a two-hit shutout against
the Reds in 2015, the last time he’s defeated them.

Atlanta continues to show the ability to produce in the late innings and lead
the National League with 141 runs in the seventh or later. On Monday the Braves
scored the tying run in the seventh and won it in the 11th when second baseman
Ozzie Albies delivered the game-winning homer.

It was the 17th homer for Albies and the first walkoff homer of his
    career.

Albies is batting .545 (12-for-22) during the four games of the current
homestand. He had two doubles to go with his homer on Tuesday and leads the
    league with 44 extra-base hits.

“He’s starting to swing the bat,” manager Brian Snitker said. “He’s been a
real stellar guy for us. No doubt he’s aggressive. That makes him what he is.
    He’s having a heckuva year.”

Cincinnati right fielder Scott Schebler had a double and a homer in the
series opener. He has hit safely in eight of his last nine games and 17 of his
last 18. Schebler missed three games in the last series while on the bereavement
    list.

J.D. Martinez and the Boston Red Sox keep piling up big offensive numbers – not to mention wins – against the Los Angeles Angels. Martinez hit his major league-leading 25th home run http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-paul-worrilow-jersey , Rafael Devers delivered a tiebreaking double and the Red Sox beat the skidding Angels 9-6 on Wednesday night after squandering a six-run lead. Boston (54-27) moved into first place in the AL East, a half-game ahead of the rival New York Yankees. After finishing their series with the Angels on Thursday night, the Red Sox play three games at Yankee Stadium this weekend. The homer by Martinez capped a six-run second for the Red Sox, who won for the fifth time in six games. Eduardo Nunez and Sandy Leon also went deep in the inning. Boston improved to 5-0 against the Angels this season and has outscored them 45-10 with 18 homers and a .363 batting average. It’s the most homers by any club in a season series of six games or fewer, according to the Red Sox. ”I don’t know. That’s just what it is, really. There’s no one explanation,” Martinez said. ”Maybe we just match up well against them.” Martin Maldonado launched a three-run homer and Ian Kinsler had a solo shot for the Angels, who lost their fifth straight and 12th in 16 games. Los Angeles reliever Jake Jewell was carted off the field with what appeared to be a gruesome injury to his right ankle after covering the plate on a run-scoring wild pitch in the eighth. ”He’s getting evaluated, I think, at Massachusetts General,” Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said. ”Hopefully we’ll get an idea of what’s happening sometime tonight.” Angels star Mike Trout went 1 for 4 as a sprained right index finger kept him as the designated hitter for the eighth consecutive game. Devers doubled off reliever Jose Alvarez (3-3) in the seventh, putting Boston back in front 7-6, and scored on Leon’s single in a game that took 4 hours. ”It was a weird game, slow pace http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-richard-rodgers-jersey ,” Boston manager Alex Cora said. ”I’m glad we won the game. Not a pretty game to watch.” Matt Barnes (2-2) worked a scoreless inning. Craig Kimbrel got four outs for his 23rd save, his first of more than three outs this season. The Angels trailed 6-0 and looked as though they were in line for another lopsided loss to Boston before they charged back with a run in the fifth on Kinsler’s homer, three in the sixth on Maldonado’s shot and two in the seventh. ”We battled back and got in the game. We’ll keep battling,” Scioscia said. ”But, at some point, obviously we need to put both ends together and get the pitching we need, get some early runs and get the game on our terms and we’re going to start to do things the way we can.” Andrelton Simmons‘ RBI double off reliever Joe Kelly tied it. Martinez’s shot went over the Green Monster in left-center, raising his big league-best RBI total to 64. In his first season with Boston, the slugger has the most home runs in Red Sox history before the end of June. Nunez hit Andrew Heaney’s first pitch of the second into the center-field bleachers. Leon drove an inside fastball off a billboard above the Green Monster. Boston starter Rick Porcello gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Heaney was tagged for six runs in 3 1/3 innings. TRAINER’S ROOM Angels: INF Zack Cozart got a second opinion on his left shoulder after experiencing continued discomfort and plans to have surgery in Los Angeles soon to repair a torn labrum, the team said. … Scioscia said two-way rookie star Shohei Ohtani (sprained elbow ligament) will be re-evaluated Thursday. Three weeks ago, Ohtani’s elbow was injected with platelet-rich plasma and stem cells as he tries to avoid Tommy John surgery. Red Sox: Cora said 2B Dustin Pedroia and knuckleballer Steven Wright will see Dr. Riley Williams III when the club is in New York to play the Yankees this weekend. Both are on the 10-day DL with left knee inflammation and had surgery performed by Dr. Williams. ”Maybe we can do something differently as far as the treatments,” Cora said about Pedroia, who has played in just three games since offseason surgery. … Drew Pomeranz threw a simulated game and Cora said the left-hander could start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday. NEW ADDITION The Red Sox signed infielder Brandon Phillips to a minor league deal. The 36-year-old veteran has played with five teams over 16 seasons. UP NEXT Angels: RHP Jamie Barria (5-3, 3.40 ERA) is slated to pitch the series finale Thursday. It will be his first career start against Boston. Red Sox: LHP Brian Johnson (1-2 Youth Breeland Speaks Jersey , 4.50) takes Wright’s turn in the rotation after he went on the disabled list Tuesday. — BOSTON — Last Saturday in Seattle, Mariners left-hander Wade LeBlanc pitched what had to be the game of his journeyman career in outdueling Steven Wright and handing the Boston Red Sox a 1-0 defeat. The Mariners haven’t won since as they head into Friday night’s rematch between the two pitchers in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox won the Sunday game in Seattle and then lost the first two games in Minnesota before rebounding a 9-2 win and Rick Porcello’s ninth win of the season on Thursday. After losing the game Sunday, the Mariners were swept in a three-game series by the Yankees in the Bronx — to start a difficult 10-game swing through the East that concludes with a four-game series in Baltimore. LeBlanc, who has been pitching well in his latest role, is 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA and has yielded only 11 earned runs in nine starts — capped by 7 2/3 shutout innings (two hits, no walks, nine strikeouts) against the Red Sox. He is just 33-35 with a 4.23 ERA in his career, but much of the negative numbers are in the past — at least for now. After beating the Red Sox, he said, “That’s a stout lineup over there, but the fact that me and Z (catcher Mike Zunino) were able to mix things up and put them in the rocking chair makes things easier. Everything was executed and that’s really all I can say. It’s the most important thing for me — it’s to execute pitches. Today, me and Z were able to do that.” But the team has faltered since, blowing a 5-0 lead in Wednesday’s game before losing 4-3 on Thursday. “Coming in here, we have been playing very good baseball Authentic Christian Kirk Jersey ,” said Seattle manager Scott Servais, whose team has dropped five of its last seven. “We know what kind of ballclub they have with the power and the bullpen. I thought we were right in the game the last couple of days. “But you have to hit on the road. You have to get big hits on the road. We just didn’t get it done. It doesn’t detract or take away from anything that we’ve done to this point. Our guys are not down at all.” The Boston bats snoozed through the first two games in Minneapolis, wasting starts by Chris Sale and David Price. The bats broke out Thursday, avoiding the sweep and leaving the Red Sox (50-26) as one of three American League teams with 50 wins. “I think it was just a couple of tough days,” Mookie Betts, who hit is 19th homer of the season Thursday, said after the game. “We came out ready to swing it and it just showed what we can do.” Wright has been outstanding since making his delayed 2018 debut (after knee surgery and a 15-game MLB suspension). He is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA and gave up just the one losing run in the matchup with LeBlanc. “He’s been great. Outstanding, really,” Cora said. “I heard a lot of good things about him before I got here and he’s showed why.” He is 2-2 with a 1.31 ERA in four games (two starts) against the Mariners. Kyle Seager is 3-for-9 and Nelson Cruz 2-for-6 (both .333), and Zunino is 1-for-8 (.125) and Dee Gordon 1-for-6 (.167) against the knuckleballer. LeBlanc is 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA in three career starts against Boston. The Current Red Sox roster is a combined 3-for-16 against him. J.D. Martinez is 2-for-3 (.667) and no one has with more than three at-bats against him.

Steve Wilks took over as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals saying he was humbled by the job but exhibiting an abundance of confidence that he can do it well. The 48-year-old coach http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-brandon-parker-jersey , promoted after just one season as defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, was introduced at a news conference Tuesday, bringing a reputation of connecting easily with his players as he replaces Bruce Arians, who retired after five colorful seasons and 50 victories in Arizona. ”We found a great leader,” Cardinals President Michael Bidwill said, ”and not just a leader with a high football IQ but also a high football `EQ’ (emotional quotient). He doesn’t just coach football players, he coaches people.” Wilks, who gets a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth, described his coaching style as ”very passionate, persistent and very positive.” And confident. ”I’m going to tell you right now,” Wilks said, looking at Bidwill and general manager Steve Keim http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-nick-nelson-jersey , ”you guys made the right decision.” In a later interview, Wilks said, ”It’s hard to blend in when you’re born to stand tall.” Bidwill said he heard nothing but good things about Wilks from his former players, many of them unsolicited. ”I know what he brings to the table. I know what they’re getting,” Washington Redskins and ex-Panthers cornerback Josh Norman said in a statement provided by the Cardinals. ”At the end of the day, I came from pretty much nothing to rise up to where I’m at today and he was the catalyst behind that. Position coach all the way up to the ranks of a D-coordinator for a year, and then making it now to a head coaching job; it’s crazy how that trend came for him. The conversations we have are just so enlightening. He’s a leader of men and that’s what it all boils down to.” Keim was asked what separated Wilks from the other eight candidates interviewed for the job. ”You can become a better coach through experience,” Keim said. ”But to have leadership, to me, there’s an innate part of that. And when you get to know Steve Wilks, you can tell that he has that innate leadership skill that very few people have.” There was nary a mention of Arians at the news conference. Instead, the new coach http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-johnny-townsend-jersey , who gained the nickname ”Denzel” back in Carolina due to his resemblance to a certain actor, provided a vision for the foundation of the franchise, while acknowledging ”the elephant in the room.” ”This is not a rebuild, this is a retool,” Wilks said. ”I think we have the pieces in place, when you look at both sides of the ball. There’s a question mark right now and we all know it, the elephant in the room. We don’t have a quarterback.” This in a division that includes Jared Goff, Russell Wilson and Jimmy Garoppolo. Keim insisted that lack of a quarterback was not a hindrance in the coaching search. ”We looked at it as a positive,” Keim said, ”As Michael and I talked to the candidates, it’s `You really have a blank canvas. You really have an opportunity to be a part of setting us up for the future at that position.” Asked which was harder, finding a coach or a quarterback http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-ryan-switzer-jersey , Keim didn’t hesitate. ”A quarterback,” he said. ”We’re going to be aggressive in the process and there’s going to be a number of different options,” Keim said, ”whether it’s free agency, whether it’s a trade option or whether it’s the draft, or all three.” While all of Wilks’ 23-year coaching career (11 college, 12 NFL) are on the defensive side. He will inherit the makings of a strong defense in Arizona, anchored by the likes of NFL sack leader Chandler Jones and perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson. But the big questions are on offense, and Wilks gave no hint as to who his offensive coordinator will be. He said he wanted his staff in place by the Super Bowl and did not rule out retaining members of the previous one. He said he’d talked with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald on the phone but doesn’t know if the star wide receiver will return for a 15th NFL season. One of Wilks’ biggest smiles came when he talked about the return of running back David Johnson, who was lost for the season when he broke a wrist in the opener. The Cardinals will, the new coach assured, run the ball. Wilks’ wife http://www.patriotsauthorizedshop.com/authentic-adrian-clayborn-jersey , Marci, two young daughters and an even younger son watched the news conference from the front row then joined him onstage for photos. — Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is heading to the 10-day disabled list because of a stiff back. Correa sat out games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and wasn’t in the lineup Thursday night at Tampa Bay. The Astros say he’ll be put on the DL on Friday. ”He feels better, but we just need to do the right thing and get him completely symptom-free and not sore,” manager A.J. Hinch said. ”He’s not going to be available, so we’ll move forward and hopefully this is just 10 days and he’ll be activated by next weekend.” Hinch said by putting Correa on the disabled list Friday, retroactive for three days, there is a possibility the 23-year-old star can be activated July 5 for a weekend series against the Chicago White Sox. Correa is hitting .268 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 73 games and recently had a streak of 70 errorless games. The Astros will make a corresponding move to fill their 25-man roster on Friday. Marwin Gonzalez was in Houston’s lineup at shortstop Thursday night.

Enrique Hernandez has helped the Los Angeles Dodgers solve a problem they’ve had for years – Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. Hernandez and Matt Kemp each homered for the second consecutive game http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-derrius-guice-jersey , Alex Wood got his first victory since May 20 and the Dodgers beat Bumgarner and San Francisco 3-1 on Saturday night. Hernandez’s two-run shot in the fifth inning was his fourth career homer against Bumgarner in 34 at-bats. He also has five doubles against the left-hander. The utility player usually feasts on Bumgarner’s fastballs, but he punished the left-hander for a bevy of breaking pitches Saturday, crushing one into the left field seats for his 10th home run this season. ”He adjusted to me and I hadn’t really made many adjustments,” Hernandez said. ”Today he came at me with the same gameplan and it took me three at-bats to adjust, but I’m glad that I did.” Bumgarner (0-2) was making just his third start since returning from the disabled list because of a broken finger that occurred during spring training. He threw 112 pitches while giving up three runs on five hits over six innings. ”Each time out I’m getting better and better, that’s all I can ask for,” Bumgarner said. ”It’s the first time I went over 100 pitches and my velocity is creeping up and my stretch and grip is coming back.” The Dodgers have won five straight, all at home, and are 11-2 in June and 21-6 since May 17. The Giants have lost 17 of their last 23 road games and are 3-6 on their 10-game trip to Washington, Miami and Los Angeles. Kemp hit his 12th home run and has reached base in 15 of his last 18 games against the Giants. Both Hernandez and Kemp went deep in a 3-2 win Friday over the Giants. The Dodgers lead the majors with 34 home runs in 13 games in June. Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth for his 17th save. The Dodgers clinched their first series victory over the Giants this season and evened the season series 6-6. WOOD STANDS TALL IN VICTORY Wood (2-5) credited a change in mechanics for his improvement Saturday. He was coming off a three-start stretch when he gave up 13 earned runs in 12 innings, going two innings in one start and 4 2/3 in another. On Saturday, the left-hander gave up one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. He held the Giants hitless until Mac Williamson singled to lead off the fifth. ”We found something with my posture,” Wood said. ”I saw some good strides in my (between-start) bullpen and got some repetitions out there. I felt really good with the adjustment and saw that translate over.” Wood gave up three hits in the fifth http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-justin-bethel-jersey , but the Giants’ only run in the inning came on a sacrifice fly from Alen Hanson. Wood threw 29 of his 85 pitches in the fifth inning. ”As the game went on, I got a little fatigued,” Wood said. ”I think you naturally start to revert back to some of the things you got yourself into, but I felt really good about the progress tonight.” TRAINERS ROOM Giants: 3B Evan Longoria elected to have surgery to insert a pin into his fractured left hand with the hopes of returning shortly after the All-Star break. … RHP Johnny Cueto, on the DL with right elbow inflammation, will throw live batting practice Monday. … RHP Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) pitched three innings for Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and manager Bruce Bochy said he believes his starter will be back soon. Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw (back) will pitch a three-inning simulated start either Tuesday or Wednesday at Dodger Stadium while the Dodgers are in Chicago to face the Cubs. Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw will follow that outing with a bullpen session and likely another simulated start before going out on a minor league rehab assignment. … LHP Rich Hill (blister) followed his minor league rehab start Thursday with a bullpen session Saturday and remains on track to return to the active roster Tuesday at Chicago. UP NEXT RHP Chris Stratton (7-4, 4.56 ERA) will pitch for the Giants on Sunday at Dodger Stadium in the finale of a three-game series. LHP Caleb Ferguson (0-0, 9.53) will be looking to pitch past the fourth inning for the first time as he makes his third career start for the Dodgers. — The struggling New York Mets made a couple of roster changes Friday, cutting Hansel Robles and demoting fellow reliever Paul Sewald to the minor leagues. Right-hander Drew Smith and outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski were called up from Triple-A Las Vegas before the opener of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Robles was designated for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster. New York has seven days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors. The right-hander was 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 16 appearances during his fourth season with the Mets. He allowed seven home runs and walked 10 in 19 2/3 innings. ”Hansel’s been with us quite a while. We’ve seen him pitch well. We’ve seen him pitch less well. We’ve got a number of other young relievers, some of whom we acquired last year at the trade deadline, we want to take a look at http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-logan-paulsen-jersey ,” general manager Sandy Alderson said. ”So we just felt it was time to take a look at a couple of additional people. We’re excited to see what Drew Smith can do for us.” Sewald and fellow right-hander Chris Flexen were optioned to Las Vegas following Thursday’s loss at Colorado. Sewald was 0-4 with a 4.85 ERA in 26 games, and Flexen had an 11.57 ERA in 2 1/3 innings. Smith, obtained from Tampa Bay last July for first baseman Lucas Duda, was 4-1 with three saves and a 2.88 ERA in 23 combined games at Double-A Binghamton and Las Vegas this year. Kaczmarski was batting .346 with a .416 on-base percentage in 33 combined games between Class A St. Lucie and Las Vegas. He missed time while recovering from hernia surgery. Smith and Kaczmarski were both looking to make their major league debuts. New York began the day 31-41 and fourth in the NL East after losing 20 of its previous 26 games ”Given where we are currently, realistically, I think it’s important for us to see what other people can do,” Alderson said. ”Drew Smith, Kaczmarski, let’s see what they can do within the framework of trying to win some games immediately over the next few weeks. But what we’re trying to do is make sure we’re as competitive as we can possibly be over the next couple of weeks while at the same time not being afraid to try out new faces.” In another move, injured reliever A.J. Ramos (right shoulder surgery) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. —

Blake Bortles remembers the first time Jalen Ramsey got under his skin. Bortles was trying to get through a two-minute drill during the 2016 season. It was a weekly walkthrough routine in which players were supposed to go half-speed while practicing plays. Normally http://www.buccaneersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jordan-whitehead-jersey , there’s no contact and every pass is complete. At least that had been the case until Ramsey arrived. Bortles threw several passes in Ramsey’s direction. The rookie intercepted or knocked down each one. It happened week after week until Bortles finally stopped throwing Ramsey’s way. ”It was so annoying,” Bortles recalled Thursday. It also set the tone for Ramsey’s career. The trash-talking cornerback has a flair for frustrating quarterbacks and receivers and the ability to essentially shut down one side of the field. After 33 games, Ramsey’s already considered among the best players in franchise history – a 23-year-old rising star who openly aspires to be as good as Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and often looks the part. ”The best I’ve ever seen in person,” Bortles said. ”He’s freakish.” Ramsey is a major piece of Jacksonville’s defensive turnaround, and he’ll take center stage Sunday when the Jaguars (11-6) play in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs at Pittsburgh (13-3). Ramsey will shadow Antonio Brown , widely considered the best receiver in the NFL. All-Pro vs. All-Pro, undoubtedly the most intriguing matchup of the postseason game. ”It’s not many receivers I’m going to come in here in front of y’all and say they’re one of the best in the league,” Ramsey said. ”He is, though. That’s the truth about him.” Brown caught 10 passes for 157 yards in the first meeting against Jacksonville http://www.titansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-rashaan-evans-jersey , which won 30-9 in early October. Ben Roethlisberger targeted Brown a staggering 19 times, with three of those ending up as interceptions. ”He’s an elite player,” Ramsey said. ”Highly regarded by everybody, honestly, around the nation or maybe internationally. So, yeah, it’s going to be a challenge. We’re going to have to be on our Ps and Qs and try to execute the game plan as best we can.” Jacksonville’s game plan has changed slightly since the first meeting. Ramsey and fellow Pro Bowl cornerback A.J. Bouye played sides to start the season, covering whatever receiver lined up in front of them. But Ramsey has since started following the top wideout for every opponent all over the field, and he’s had rousing success against Houston’s DeAndre Hopkins http://www.titansauthorizedshops.com/authentic-harold-landry-jersey , Indianapolis’ T.Y. Hilton, Cincinnati’s A.J. Green, Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald, Los Angeles Chargers’ Keenan Allen and San Francisco’s Marquise Goodwin. Ramsey angered Green so much with his constant verbal jabs that the mild-mannered receiver grabbed the cocky cornerback in a headlock and tossed him to the ground. Both players were ejected. ”He’ll get in a guy’s head now,” linebacker Telvin Smith said. Added Bouye: ”Everything he’s accomplished, he’s worked for it. He’s capitalized. He’s learned from his mistakes and he keeps getting better week in and week out.” According to Pro Football Focus, Ramsey has allowed 47 receptions for 586 yards and three touchdowns this season. He has five interceptions, including one to seal a 10-3 victory against Buffalo in a wild-card game. It was about what the Jaguars have come to expect from the fifth overall pick in the 2016 draft. He has a rare combination of size, speed http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-da_ron-payne-jersey , instincts, ball skills and body control. And he’s no longer a rookie. ”You see the maturity in the meetings and you see the maturity on the grass,” defensive coordinator Todd Wash said. ”We always knew he was a freak athlete and we always knew he could play. But that maturity level is getting better and better each day.” His matchup against Brown will be his next – and maybe his best – challenge. ”It’s going to be an unbelievable thing,” Jaguars safety Barry Church said. ”I’m just glad I’m on the field for it. Those guys, they both like to talk a bit of trash and they’re going to be matched up with each other the whole game. It’s going to be a great one. We’ll see who gets the better of the two, but my money’s on Jalen.” — San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria is going on the disabled list after injuring his left hand when he was hit by a pitch at Miami. The Giants announced the move shortly before their series opener at Dodger Stadium on Friday night. Longoria fractured the fifth metacarpal in his hand in the fourth inning of the Giants’ 16-inning victory over the Marlins a day earlier. He remained in the game as a runner before being caught in a double play. He was replaced defensively in the bottom of the inning. Longoria said after the game that the last time he broke a bone in his wrist he went to the World Series in 2008 with Tampa Bay. He is tied for the Giants’ lead with 34 RBIs, is second with 10 home runs and is tied for second with 27 extra-base hits. —

In games where the St. Louis Cardinals hit homers and pitch well Ameer Abdullah Jersey , they generally walk off the field with a win. But on nights where they can’t connect with the long ball, they don’t consistently make up for it with situational hitting or defense. Friday night’s 5-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves was another example of that trend rearing its ugly head. After failing to cash in leadoff walks in the bottom of the first against Braves starter Julio Teheran, St. Louis simply couldn’t crack the code. It eventually caught up with the Cardinals as they were held to one run for their second straight game. For St. Louis (42-38) to even the series Saturday night at Busch Stadium, the Cardinals will have to do a better job of converting runners in scoring position into runs while not giving up extra outs defensively. The Cardinals’ three errors Friday night marked their 17th multi-error game in 80 games. St. Louis is on a pace to commit more than 130 miscues this year, continuing a three-season trend of below-average defense. Permitting good teams like Atlanta (46-34) four or five outs in an inning is a recipe for disaster. The Braves started a 10-game road trip with a positive result. Third baseman Johan Camargo was the offensive star, going 3-for-5 with two runs and a two-run double off Jordan Hicks in the eighth that broke open a 1-0 game. “Baseball is all about its ups and downs,” Camargo said. “For me, it’s all about maintaining the focus and just staying the path.” Atlanta essentially heeded Camargo’s credo, bouncing back from consecutive series losses against last-place teams Baltimore and Cincinnati. It will turn to left-hander Max Fried (0-2, 4.09 ERA) on Saturday to secure a series win. Fried is replacing veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy, who was put on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with a knee injury. A former first-round pick of San Diego, Fried will make his first start since going five innings and giving up one earned run on May 28 in a no-decision against the New York Mets. It will be the second career appearance against the Cardinals for Fried, who last year tossed a scoreless inning in relief against them. Right-hander Luke Weaver (4-6, 4.59) will look for his second straight win for St. Louis. Weaver shrugged off a rough first inning Sunday in Milwaukee to grab an 8-2 win Evan Bouchard Oilers Jersey , fanning a season-high nine over 5 2/3 innings while yielding two runs off five hits and two walks. Weaver needed 32 pitches to make it through a two-run first inning, but started finding the range with his off-speed pitches. That made his fastball play bigger, and he rolled through the middle innings while the Cardinals bombed Jhoulys Chacin out of the box with five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. “The first inning, it was like, ‘Here we go again.’ It means a lot for him to right the ship,” St. Louis manager Mike Matheny told mlb.com. Weaver, who snapped a seven-start winless streak in Milwaukee, will make his first career appearance against the Braves. The Texas Rangers took full advantage after a changed call. A misplayed flyball only made things worse for the San Diego Padres. Robinson Chirinos drove in the first of five runs Texas scored in a decisive sixth inning on the next pitch after it appeared he had struck out, and right fielder Hunter Renfroe was charged with an error on the next play as the Rangers rallied for a 7-4 win Monday night. There were two runners and Chirinos had two strikes when he had a foul tip. Home plate umpire Tony Randazzo initially indicated he was out, and it looked like catcher Austin Hedges had secured the ball in the mitt that kicked up dirt when he reached down. But was changed to a foul ball after the umpires got together to discuss the play. ”From my vantage point, our dugout, we saw dirt fly, which seem to indicate that the ball hit the ground,” said Rangers manager Jeff Banister Authentic Lukas Dostal Jersey , who said the umps got together on their own. Padres manager Andy Green obviously had a much different view. ”Yeah, it’s frustrating. They missed it. I think it’s obvious when you see the film that they missed it,” Green said. ”It’s a frustrating overturn on an obvious call. We had chances, though. We had some plays we could have made that we didn’t make. It’s one of those innings that flat out got away from us.” After Chirinos’ got Texas within 4-2, Ronald Guzman then hit the deep flyball misplayed by Renfroe, who drifted to the ball on a windy night into the right-center cutout. Guzman wound up at second on the error and was credited with a sac fly. Delino DeShields and Choo followed with consecutive RBI singles, and Elvis Andrus added a sac fly. ”You’ve got to be mentally tough enough to bounce back from it and make a better pitch than what I made,” said Craig Stammen (4-1). Choo extended his career-best on-base streak to 38 games with three hits, including that tiebreaking RBI single in the sixth. Chirinos had an RBI double in the seventh. San Diego (35-46) reached the midpoint of its season by losing for the eighth time in nine games. The Rangers (35-45), who play their 81st game Tuesday night, have won eight of nine. Tony Barnette (2-0) retired all three batters he faced after Manuel Margo and Jose Pirela homered off Rangers starter Cole Hamels. Keone Kela worked the nine for his 19th save, the most in the majors without a blown chance and matching the longest season-opening span in team history. ”Being able to see what the team was able to do when you put them a little behind, they were able to battle,” Hamels said. ”When you’re winning http://www.buccaneersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-alex-cappa-jersey , everybody’s happy, and you can move on to the next day.” GOING DEEP Margo’s three-run homer in the fifth was his second homer in as many days, and his third overall. His only other homer this season came April 5. … Pirela went deep to start the sixth for a 4-1 lead and chase Hamels. BEING CAUTIOUS San Diego starter Joey Lucchesi allowed only one hit over four scoreless innings. But the lefty was limited to 70 pitches in only his second start after being out more than a month because of a right hip strain. ”You’re managing a guy’s career as much as you are a baseball game,” Green said. ”To me, wasn’t quite stretched out enough to send him back out there for the fifth inning.” SHORT HOPS The Padres had allowed five runs or fewer in their 14 previous road games, a club record. … It was the 10th time in Hamels’ 16 starts this season that Texas scored no more than one run while the lefty was on the mound. TRAINER’S ROOM Padres: Green said an MRI on the pitching elbow of RHP Jordan Lyles showed that he does just have inflammation. Lyles was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday after feeling discomfort while warming up. Lyles will rejoin the team in Texas, but won’t start throwing again before the weekend. Rangers: Guzman left in the sixth and went into MLB concussion protocol. His head struck the knee of third baseman Christian Villanueva when diving back on an attempted pickoff by Hedges. ”It was very evident when we got out there, just his words, kind of the symptoms that he gave us,” Banister said. … RF Nomar Mazar left with tightness in his left hamstring after an infield single in the eighth. Banister described that as ”pretty precautionary.” UP NEXT Padres right-hander Tyson Ross (5-5), who received no run support in his last two starts, faces the team he pitched for last year. Ross was 3-3 with a 7.71 ERA in 12 games in his only season with the Rangers after previously being with San Diego from 2013-16. —
